CPC question

My brother has got his hgv license through the army but wants to drive when he’s on leave. Does he just need to do the practical and theory cpc test or would he have to do the 35 hours class room?

Thanks in advance for any answers

The type of CPC he can do depends on when he passed his car test, if it’s post 1997 (if I recall correctly) then he won’t have C1 on his licence and can’t do the 35 hour periodical.

As said if he passed the car test on or after 1st January 1997 he will have to do mods 2 and 4 (Initial Driver CPC) before he can drive HGVs commercially.

If he passed the car test prior to 1997 he should have had cat C1 on his licence before passing the HGV test, in which case he can choose to do either mods 2 and 4 or 35 hours periodic training.

Passed his HGV class 1 and 2 last year and has ADR
But looking at your replies, he’ll still need to do mod 2 and 4.

Cheers lads
