CPC Periodic Training moving to Pass/Fail

Was told this morning by a CPC trainer that there are moves afoot to bring periodic training into new Pass/Fail format?

Anyone else heard this or was it just babble !

Nowt on the EU sites

I couldn’t find anything either but they said they’d been told it was, wish asked who said it but didn’t.

I’ll put it down to babble for now then!

If only

I’ve been in contact with three of my DCPC provider customers today, and not one of them mentioned this.

I’ve also looked on the JAUPT website ‘latest news’ and ‘end of year report,’ but found nothing there either.

It came about as I was at an agency filling in forms and they asked about my availability next few weeks an I had a call confirming a place on a CPC course I was supposed to do last Nov, I’m doing course as means I’ll have the next set of 5yrs hrs in hand as I paid for a course myself Dec. There was a CPC trainer there doing a course and and said best get it done now as the courses will be moving to pass/fail shortly.

Maybe just something they’d mis-heard themselves but seemed genuine about it and obviously impartial to my circumstances so not trying to sell me a course either.

well I’m 3 days into my 35 hours this week and we have had 2 lots of
10 questions each day with 80%/8out of10 needed to pass, these are really basic
multiple choice but we were told we had to pass or no certificate.

I’m not sure what this is about, because periodic DCPC has no pass/fail.
If you meet the criteria to take a periodic DCPC course and the provider has checked your ID and driving licence, then all you need is seven hours of attendance.

My comment above is valid unless the DCPC is attached to a course in which there are proper exams/assessments (such as ADR, HIAB or First-Aid.) If not, then you’ve nothing to worry about.
In this case, even if you failed the (proper) exams, you’d still get your seven hours for each day.

A quick phone call to JAUPT can confirm this, then you’ll have had it from the horse’s mouth.

I did get the impression that this was something this particular company was doing
and not a change in the law
the instructor said it was because people kept moaning that periodic training was a “waste of time as there wasn’t even
a test at the end of it”

Given that some of the DCPC trainers don’t seem to know what they’re talking about, a pass/fail situation could be interesting when lots of people appeal against a fail because they answered the questions correctly

That would be doubly interesting because I’m wondering who the ‘appeal’ would go to for adjudication. :grimacing: :stuck_out_tongue:

If you are doing a test, this can’t be part of the seven hours training period. It has to be carried out after the 7 hours training has been completed.

There’s nothing to stop a trainer incorporating a test as part of the training session.

Good tactic to make ppl book their CPC quickly, give them fear off the dreaded word TEST

That’s a common and quite legitimate thing to do, but they call it an “exercise,” then it’s compliant with JAUPT rules.

For example, an ADR course has a compulsory “desktop exercise” which is part of either Day #1 or Day #2 depending on the timetable, but I’ve done them even when there’s an External Verifier from JAUPT in the room and no comment was made.

The key to this is that the exercise/assessment is NOT part of the DCPC, so there’s still no pass/fail for DCPC.

I’ve found a lot of training places (from drivers chit chat) do a quick test purely to monitor their own training plans to see if drivers are taking I what’s being taught .

no test at the end of today so normal service has been resumed

That’s perfectly OK, but I’ve heard (from drivers chit chat) that some instructors hint to their candidates that the outcome of the test affects them getting their 7hr DCPC certificate, which isn’t OK.

IMHO, the most that can be said of a poor “test” result might hint at the possible need for further training or maybe a repeat of that session.

A ‘QUIZ’ is perfeclty acceptable and some companies who pay for it all insist they get those results
