decca591:
Thanks for the reply Dieseldave, point taken. I am reading through an older book - Dave lowe - and it is 12th Edition - but this is to get my head around the topic, had it a while ( obviously) I intend reading it while I am out and about as and when I can, …
Hi decca591,
I also take your point, and it’s a fair one…
An older book can be used to get a general grasp of the subject areas to be covered and a clue as to what depth of study is needed, but PLEASE don’t attempt to learn/remember any of it.
I say this because it’s the Devil’s own job to un-learn something when you eventually get to read the correct books.
Clearly, some things never change, such as a lorry must have a wheel at each corner, plus one for the driver.
The rest of it can and does change, but now for the strange bit…
It would be equally no good if you were to read the very latest actual law books for each of the topic areas covered in the CPC exams, because there’s a delay in OCR incorporating the very latest stuff into the exams. My advice about getting the correct student notes that go with the exams that a candidate will take honestly comes from my own observations when I was teaching CPC.
I’ve no idea of how good the RHA student notes are, so I can’t comment on them because I’ve never seen any.
I can say that every provider I taught CPC for used the EOS student notes, which IMHO were well set out in a logical and straightforward fashion and didn’t go into irrelevant depth or detail.
Hi guys, been a while but time for an update on TM CPC, abandoned the distance learning project, my job changed and I found myself on days and strangely enough, I ended up with less spare time than I had on nights !!
Bit the bullet and am currently doing my TM Cpc on a 2 week intensive course !
Watch this space for more breath taking news in the next few weeks.
Thanks to those of you that responded last time with help and advice.
On a separate topic, does anyone know where I can get hold of “Trailer defect sheets”, we use the small (Digraph) defect books for our units, and would like something similar for our trailers, or perhaps do as Stobarts, wincanton and various others do - and print my own ! - link to a unit and trailer defect sheet for download would be appreciated if anyone knows one !
Sat night and Ive just spent best part of the day going over old papers for the TM CPC, does anyone out there have any of the multiple choice papers available as electronic files, either with or without answr sheets - I can get the case study papers and examiners reports off the OCR website, but there is only 1 of the multiple choice papers on the site.
If anyone has them copies appreciated to sprdavies@hotmail.com or a link to where I can find them !
OCR do not release previous multi-choice papers as they need to keep the multi-choice question bank secure. There are some books available that may help e.g. The CPC 1001 typical Q & A’s by David Lowe. Try Amazon. This is an old book based on old National qual. but there are some crossover questions. Be careful though - some questions out of date!!!
Took my tests today - reasonably happy with the multi choice, Time will tell.
Not so happy with my case study though, got a feeling I’ll be sitting that one again - but hey, you never know. Enjoyed the experience, been a long time since I was in a class room - Everyone seemed to think they had lucked out today, but surely we couldn’t all have failed
As before, watch this space, anyone thinking of doing the TM Cpc themselves feel free to contact me, any help I can give will be freely offered.
I will certainly be sitting again (June) if I have flunked it !
Hi guys
The results are in and I have just had confirmation that I passed Part 2 as well - So no re-sit required, well chuffed !!
Congratulations to every one who has received notice this week that they passed - well done guys (and gals)
Now, what am I going to do with it at my age
All the best, and thanks to all those of you out there who offered there support, advice and encouragement.
This is something I’m looking at doing via home study too. Been thinking about it for a while so just thought sod it will do it. If anybody has any books or course notes that are as current as can possibly be let me know.
Well done on your passes lads, its, a bug bear why you have to do a harder test now, and not the national, when you or should i say i don,t have any intention of going over the pond,
Just to add my thoughts to the study process for these exams, by far the most economical way of studying is the Distance Learning. I purchased my course through RHA last year. A rather hefty ‘Course Notes’ book turned up and i basically planned my studying to do the modules in a systematic fashion, ie a module every 2 days, going over the said module again to cement the information.
There can be a tendency to ‘i’ll do that one tomorrow’ but you have to be strict with yourself, find a quiet space and study.
I timed my studies to be completed the week before my exam when i paid for a ‘Exam preparation day’ where i joined the other candidates who had been studying with a tutor intensively for the previous 2 weeks.
That day was invaluable, spending the day going over previous exam papers and just picking up some good advise and tips from the tutor. I had 3/4 questions that i needed clearing up which were expertly answered. I then had 2 clear days before the exam date. I told my family i would not see them quite as much as this is an opportunity not to be missed. I lived for those 2 days studying those modules that would turn up in the 2nd paper.
I found the multiple choice to be fairly straightforward but time restraints in the 2nd paper were noticeable. I believe OCR have added on 15 minutes to this paper now, they are required !
I passed the exam and would recommend ‘Home Study’ for those who will strictly stick to a timetable and not to skip or skim over subjects. I actually found the course interesting and stimulating, learning aspects of business i never knew, but there are many pitfalls, become very comfortable with Tachograph law, overseas operations, all aspects of operators licences and complete 3/4 past papers in the alloted time and you will have a good chance.
