dieseldave:
I’m glad I did both of mine in 1997.
It was still difficult in those days, I just found a paper from back then and one of the questions is…
What type of coal would you use in a Steam Sentinel?
a) Lignite
b) Subbituminous
c) Bituminous
d) Anthracite

Does anybody know when we can expect results from Fridays exams?

39th Edition. I am going to put my 2011 book on ebay at that money

It’'s generally reckoned to be 8-9 weeks, OCR’s website says “January” so I would say in the last few days of that month, although apparently the results of the last exam were late which caused problems for those re-sitting modules.
My trainers did say that they expected OCR to be more lenient than usual in their marking and more generous in their uplift because of the new CPC format coming in next year.

That’s true Harry, but even before that we had to do our costings in Guineas per mile and Groats per furlong in candlelight whilst wearing fingerless gloves.
We also had to think of the children back then, so the questions were about statutory entitlements to time off for chimney sweeps.
Ahh for a return to the days when drivers’ hours were calculated by using a sundial and STGO just meant hitching more horses to the cart…

I was stumped with that new metric electrification:
A man walks in front of your steamer with a flag;
At what speed has he to walk?
19 km/ph
8 km/ph
5 km/ph
12 km/ph
and for 5 bonus points what colour is the flag?
Realistically a CPC question should be like this…
You are a Bulgarian working for a local company. You have been driving for four-and-a-half hours. Do you need to
a) take a 30 minute break
b) take a 45 minute break
c) take an 11 hour break
d) put a magnet on your gearbox sensor and carry on driving

Well if we all fail, in March 2012 you can take your training manual in with you. Can you believe it…
Another change is that the case study will no longer be published in advance.
Harry that is not a bad thing as hardly anything in the scenario, was brought up in the test.
What I do feel is wrong about the changes due in the new year is that if you have two out of the three parts of the National course you have to resit the whole lot. I would have thought that, even if it wasn’t stretched out as far as a year for the International part, the ability to retake once in March would not have been unseen.
Stan
I found the whole thing quite difficult and I’m not sure how I got on!!
But looking on the positive side, anyone got a set of study notes for the international module they don’t need anymore??
Happy to pay post and a contribution to the beer fund
Paul
There’s a complete international CPC course on ebay for £29.99 at the mo if that’s of any help.

I don’t care what anyone says, in my book you are a top bloke Mr Monk

Thanks mate.
No worries, just a couple of things I came up short on when I did the International CPC, make sure you learn all of the Incoterms and their exact meanings, looking through past papers there is always a question on Incoterms, and make sure you understand the rules on what VAT to charge if any when transporting goods between two third party countries and how.
I did well on driver-based questions, such as what to do when presenting a TIR carnet at a point of departure, and what the rules on interrupting a ferry movement are, but fell down on the freight-forwarder based questions, I won’t know if I passed until January but if I do it will be because I concentrated my revision on the National CPC, there being no chance to re-sit a failed module from this test, whereas if I do fail the International I have a 12 month period of grace to re-take that.
We might not be doing so much business with Europe after the eurozone split.
Might kick things off in this country,as in manufacturing instead of importing.
