CPC Module question

Hi

Just a quick question as I’m a bit confused (doesn’t take much lol) , I’m booked in for my C+E course in February, my question is do I need to do these CPC modules or do I gain that for the first 5 years when I pass my C+E test?

I passed my car category and C1/C1E in Dec 1996 and gained my C (rigid licence) with the fire service in March 2009 and as far as I can work out I have been exempt from these CPC modules so far. However I am looking at king a bit if article work on my days off from Fire service.

Really confused lol

Cheers

Sorry poxy auto correct spelling, what the last part was meant to say is I am looking at doing a bit of Artic work on my days off in between shifts

Cheers

You should only need the periodic cpc as you passed your car test before 1997

Dont matter weather you exempt from them or not if you passed you C ( think it was sept 09 ) you should be ok

You should be able to do some driving in between shifts & on your 12 days ( take it they still have them ) but be careful with the WDT on your hours

Have a look as there have been threads recently on working 2 jobs

Here it is

Thanks Animal. Just to clarify so once I pass my C+E and get my digital Tacho I’m good to go ?

12off? We do 4 on 4 off

You have until 09/09/2014 to get in 35 hours of dcpc periodic training so you can drive LGVs commercially after that date

At the moment you have aquired/grandfather rights until that date because you had a LGV category (C1 to CE) on your licence on 10/09/2009

Working two jobs means you have to watch out that the EU rest rules are complied with as well as the apropriate official records for both jobs

Thanks Rog

Yep do you still do 9-5 x2 then x2 5-9 then 4 days off is it every 6 week or so 12 days

Close 2x 9am-6pm days then 2x 6pm-9am nights then 4 off

So it changed a bit then as used to be but long time ago  but still should get your 12 day every few weeks

Guys , probably simple question for all of you, but I can not find an answer to it.
When do you apply domestic hours and when do you apply EC hours?
My mate who works as a bus driver says that in his case domestic hours apply to drivers on regular local services and contracts and rail replacement services, but EU drivers hours regulations apply apply to drivers on long distance bus services (over 50 km in length), private tour and excursions, even if driven in the UK.
So being a bus driver everything within 50 km route in length is domestic hours, EU hours are all routes longer than 50 km.
Is it the same with driving lorries?

Might answer your question

Thanks Animal

  1. Is a “maximum permissible weight of a vehicle” the same as “gross vehicle weight”?
  2. Does this mean weight of a vehicle + maximum load it can take?
    Thanks

If "maximum permissible weight " of a vehicle is the same as “gross vehicle weight” than all vehicles are over 3.5 tonnes, all rigid and all artic.
In this case it would mean that domestic rules are useless as no one uses them, everyone drives in the UK on EU hours.
Am I right?

Hi there, 3.5 ton is unladen weight 7.5 gross and yes jest about everyone runs on eu rules exceptions being council and service type vehicles.

PCV and LGV domestic regs are very different

LGV domestic regs are for certain types of jobs such as door to door household bin collections

@gggary
Are you sure that 3.5 tonnes mentioned in drivers rules handbook that Animal has posted is the weight of an unladen vehicle?
Can anyone confirm this?
It looks to me that “maximum permissible weight of a vehicle” is the same as “Gross Vehicle Weight” which is weight of a vehicle plus the load it can carry.
Why would they be mentioning weight of an unladen vehicle instead of a fully laden one in those rules? Doesn’t make any sense.

Weights for regulations are GVW or MAM weights

so, are there any clear cut rules to when you are supposed to be using EU hours and when domestic hours when driving in the UK?
When you start working - driving lorries who decides what rules you are supposed to be following.
I’m asking all these specific questions as I’m having my CPC module 2 exam tomorrow and would like to understand these rules before I attempt to pass it. I’m sure there some questions regarding driving hours.

Yes, there are certain exemptions from the EU regs

They are in the 561/2006 articles 3 and 13 and are also in the VOSA guide GV262-03
