cpc help!

hi all just signed up to this site after reading a fair few posts everybody on here seems great and the advice given out is fantastic. just a quick question about the cpc coming into force september 2009. i already hold a catagory c licence and im just in middle of booking my c+e training but from what i can tell about this cpc is from other peoples posts is pretty clear ie doing 35hours over 5 years etc. but how much will all this cost for someone like me who isnt employed as a driver ie my company wont be paying. ive heard the cost for full 35hours can be as much as £1400 this seems a bit extreme amount to pay every five years and im considering staying in my current job as this seems to expensive to continue to persue my c+e licence. sorry to ramble on hope one of you experienced driver on here would be able to expain more on the costs

**:D   Welcome bigcheese   **

35hours can be as much as £1400

I think you have read the course cost or centre cost to the TRAINING PROVIDER and not the trainee.
There are not any figures for trainee costs yet but I would GUESS it would be nearer to £250 to £350 for all 35 hours = £50 to £70 per year - but it is a guess.

:bulb: :bulb: If you click the link in my signature it will lead you to an index where you can access a lot more info which may be of use to you for CE ARTIC

To book any LGV training I suggest the trainee-to-be, visits the training school, meets the head person(s) and has a quick look at the truck BEFORE parting with any money.

Using the site Search facility and putting the words TRAINING AND WHERE you wish to train may turn up some recommendations.

It’s not always correct - ask coffeeholic :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

There are many on this site that have been training much longer than me and their advice is spot on too.
I just happen to have more time and a bigger gob :exclamation: :exclamation:

There are also many many more who have had extensive experience of HGV/LGV driving in areas to which I have never done or ever will do

i have noticed your name rather alot ha
still nether the less thanks for your replies

Also from what I understand the CPC is for new entrants. If you take & pass your C licence before September 2009 does that not give you Grandfather rights too? At least you are clear for 5 years then, when maybe the employer will pick up the training bill.

 Hi bigcheese, WELCOME. :grimacing:

:open_mouth: Blimey, ROG has beaten me to a welcome for a change, so I guess the nurse has let him play for a while.

I tend to agree with ROG that you’ve probably seen the cost to training providers that they have to pay in order to be approved to conduct the driver CPC training.

Besides that, you’re already in the system in plenty of time, so you’ve nothing to worry about for a few years yet.

Good luck with your C+E.

i do have the grandfather rights and i already have a job once i pass my c+e with my current firm so they should pick up the bill as you said im just covering my ■■■ so to speak so i dont pass my artic leaving me to foot a large bill for cpc after.
thanks for all your replies everyone. spot on!
