CPC for new drivers

Sorry if this has been asked before…but,

If a chap takes his C test now but already has C1 on his license (acquired rights) how does he get his CPC card, by doing parts 2 and 4 or does the poor sod have to sit through 35hrs to get a card like he would have done if he had taken the C test prior to Sept 14th 2014?

Cheers

Mark

Think he’s lost his grandfather rights now

He does 35 hours of approved training

A person with LGV C1 cannot do initial mods 2 and 4 to get into the periodic system - the booking system will not allow it

That person with C1 is already in the periodic system and need to complete 35 hours to get a valid DQC

Having passed my car test in '85 and with C1 and C1+E already on my licence, I’ve learnt from TNUK and my instructor that I’ll have to do the full 35 hours Periodic DCPC training and not the Initial DCPC before I can start driving for a living.

My driver training doesn’t include an approved CPC course so I’m having to do it separately, which is causing a bit of hassle finding someone who does the full 35 hours in one week. I’m aware of Viamaster Training, but their next CPC in a week course is end of March and I was hoping to do it sooner if possible.

It just seems grossly unfair that a 25yr old passing his Cat C can get his CPC card by doing a half hour CPC practical and then an hours case study while the older guy with C1 already has to spend 5 days and a few hundred quid to get the same CPC card when they both passed their C test on the same day! A joke.

I can sort you a Monday to Friday in Burnley at a special ‘truck net only’ rate if that’s any good for you. Got a course running week commencing 16/02

Having said that I have no idea where a outs you are

well the older guy had the advantage of doing 35 hrs over a longer amount of time prior… some drivers adamantly refused to do the 35hrs saying it’ll never happen etc then at the last min had to rush to do it to keep their jobs .

Those with C1 can do the 35 hours well before starting C training and it is not a pass or fail test so I am not sure how its unfair

My apologies…
I was under the impression that grandfather rights was to be taken advantage of up to a certain date and after that date the 35hr rights were withdrawn and pass and fail testing was needed

Its like the medical nick - once it has expired and is not renewed then the driver just needs to complete it at some point in the future to get it restored

Bear in mind that if he was driving anything over 3.5 tonnes (unless all on exempt work) then he should have done his 35 hours by now anyway.

A surprising number of drivers and operators thought DCPC began at 7.5 tonnes…wrong it was anything over 3.5 tonnes.
