is there any way to do the cpc rather then sat in a classroom?, distance learning ect?
reason is my son was killed in a road traffic accident 6 weeks ago, and every cpc course i have done previous is either about safer driving or will have some part directed at it, or the usual video playing ect, i really dont think i could sit there and do this and listen to the usual crap from some drivers going on about this and that accident or near miss,
my cpc runs out in march next year, but due to the circumstances there is going to be an inquest which is estimated to be in January, things are raw at the moment for me to do it now, and clearly may not be any better in the new year…
You could do your ADR. It’s still classroom based, but it’s all based on the ADR stuff instead of the usual CPC crap.
You could get your full 35 hours CPC out of it, and you get an extra qualification that you could purchase to use to find other work or better pay

do i have any other options?
Can you not just do first aid, drivers hours or compliance in action courses? I did all of those (2 first aids ones back to back due to being a numpty and leaving it till a week before expiry before booking courses!) and of a class of 20 every day there was no talk of near misses etc from other attendees.
I also did the safer driving one and there was no near miss stories but I understand you not wanting to take that risk
A cycling course that you can take that counts towards your cpc hours? If you combine that with the ADR course previously mentioned then you’re gonna be close (ish) to your 35. If you’re not, I’m sure that if you mentioned it to any instructor that you have reservations about certain subjects, they’d avoid any references to them. Alternatively, take a module like drivers hours, that will more than likely send you off to the land of bye-byes and you’ll wake up 7 hours later non the wiser.
Unfortunately there is no way to obtain CPC hours without sitting in a classroom, unless your company does in house training modules. Can’t do anything online for them as there would be no way for the DVSA to make sure the training was being carried out in an appropriate manner or that the person receiving the training is actually doing so.

good advice above, but let me be the first to offer my condolences on your loss…
+1. My deepest sympathies.
seconded, really sorry to hear of the loss of your lad.
Sadly i’ve been where you are now, if you ever want to talk about anything with someone not in your immediate group of friends or family, don’t hesitate to pm.
Out of interest, why is it all classroom based now. I was thinking of a hiab course just to do something less boring but was told it’s all classroom now so no point in doing the hiab training.
Deepest sympathies from me also.
This suggestion may be totally out of the question for you for any number of good reasons but might you consider doing an operator CPC course ? More expensive in time and money but you would be with the same people all through and certainly the people I know who run these would have no problem in quietly advising the other candidates of your situation. Of course you might not want to subject yourself to any exam pressure at the moment and I fully respect that but you would get your 5 DCPC’s even if you did not feel able to face the exam. You could always go back to that with a refresher in the future. Like I said just an off the wall suggestion, of course you may already have a cpc…
Odd days:

Most are classroom based but if anyone does a HIAB which is approved then that would give the hours. I would assume it would still have some form of classroom but limited.
It has to be done in a formal location rather than distance so the adjudicator can turn up and make sure 7 hours of training is being delivered.
ADR is probably a good option although depending which version you do, there are some rather grusome bits related to why we have ADR, but nothing to do with cars.
Bike one is scary but its not the trucks, but the car drivers who don’t give way due to their speed.
Cheers, adr sounds expensive and I would never use it in a million years. Just thought that the hiab might be a change to being stuck in a classroom, mind you if it’s to much I would make do with being bored.

You can still find lorry loader etc courses that will count…they are obviously much more expensive than the classroom ones though.
When DCPC first came in Merc and Scania in particular offered a good number of actual driving courses, in the hope that operators would bundle the cost into vehicle leases and get their drivers trained in actual driving. Merc went so far as to have a tanker driving course in a truck, with a tanker-trailer with outriggers so you could experience the cause of rollovers.
Sadly, no takers from penny-pinching UK hauliers though.

So sorry to read this, can’t imagine what you’re going through and you too juddian
Long time ago for me Stevieboy, our OP is having to cope with the real world at this time and i can fully understand not wanting to put himself right in where pertinent comments or subjects…which won’t be in any way ill meant, trigger obvious results.
You don’t have to do all the different topics in the CPC. You could do one of them twice or indeed one of them 5 times and that will still count as you’ve got the hours in.

Thanks juddian, what you say is what i,m afraid of tbh, comments made from people just in general conversation and not meaning any harm or anything, but when things are still raw you interpret things different and react inappropriately, hence why im hesitant in putting myself in a situation where it might happen… i have contacted a localish training school ect and they are looking into a couple of options for me, hopefully something may come of it…
