I ain’t tarring anyone with the same brush although having not been in the UK since last year I can only go by what I am told by friends back there. It’s the same here in Holland, the majority doing as they should and the ignorant selfish minority acting as if everythings ok. From the most accurate figures available though the Uk has not done very well in most aspects relating to this virus. Surely that is down to the people and the Government.

The uk carries out more tests per day than any other EU country according to the BBC, if you carry out more tests your going to find more?? Simple mathematics really! You might do better if you followed the subject. I was talking about other countries and not the EU ones. Regarding testing in the Uk that has been another shambles right from the start and as it is now with people not being able to even get a test when necessary. You may need to read the news a little deeper to be more accurate.

We aren’t talking about random testing. That would show more cases but, even then it can be adjusted for sample size.
Test twice as many, you get twice as many cases. The ‘rate’ would remain constant though.
We are currently talking about testing those who have symptoms, or have been in contact with those suspected of being infected.
Why is this important?
If anyone is suspected of being infected they should isolate. Clearly this is to stop spread of the virus. But it means those people are not contributing to the economy etc. So, being isolated unnecessarily is not good.

The next bit is a bit more involved to grasp, but since all truckers are highly intelligent I have no doubt you’ll all be familiar with issues of false negatives and false positives?

False negatives will enable infected people to spread the disease, obviously not good.
False positives will isolate well people unnecessarily. Also bad.
None of the current tests give instant results. There are those trying to get easy cheap reliable instant tests (similar to home pregnancy test) but they aren’t here yet. And even then the incubation period of C19 is such that someone could be contagious and a virus spreader before they show up on a test. It is hard to do this stuff well.
