It seems like there are a lot of Pratts in Coventry
I knew you Dad Dai, not really well but I remember him being threatened with a trailer handle by a guy who was trying to break a picket line in 1974, your Dad went over to his car and produced a propshaft out the boot, and offerd the guy out. Not sure how many Sons he had but I did give one a lift one night, I think I dropped him at Five ways roundabout near wolvey, didn’t your Dad have some trucks there after Mortons finished.
nothing
Have sent you a PM Dai,
hey cliffe do u have any pics
Mortons was my first introduction as a kid to the transort industry.
My grandad worked in the traffic office and my dad worked at hanger No. 5.
My dad also worked for Malc Hillage, when he opperated as Curtis - Hillage and Express Freight Services.
I have very happy childhood memories of both companies.
I remember the Leyland Marathon that John Exton drove, Malc and his dad took me out in it one day, what an experiance.
I ended up working with John Exton years later at Laser Trasnsport.
I am sure i have got some of my grandads photos of Morton trucks somewhere, i’ll have a look to see if i can find them.
I have also got some Express Freight pictures somewhere.
I know John Exton, theres a picture of that Marathon on here, I also knew Malc Hilage from when he had the Oak.
i’ve found a pic of a very old Mortons rigid, it was driven by my grandad Ron Trevis on the Batley Garages contract.
Can anyone tell me how to post it on here.[/img]
Batley Garages well well, my brother used to erect them with a guy called Johnny Old, and Johnny later went on to drive for Morton’s after a stint on Tidyways.

Hi dieseldog6,
Being the wrong side of 75 now, somebody asked me what was the best time of my life, well undoubtly it was the 60s, driving for Progressive Deliveries out of Oxford, wagon and drag and artic, great memories, coming back from north to Coventry ( Torrington Ave.) and loading south. I knew most of the Coventry lot including Johhny Pratt, he seemed to prefer running alone and did quite a lot of Landrover to docks, always a nice clean motor. David Logie was shop steward, Johnny Prince, from driver to manager at the Bridgewater depot, John Pickup, if I remember correctly he took quite a severe beating in Carlisle one night and did not drive again, one or two whip-rounds for him and his family. Billy “Trader” Horn was quite a ruthless man. One of the firms you didn’t mention was Larry Port, can’t remember what he called his company, I should cos I finished up with one of his wagon and drags when he was taken over by Progressive, a Commer, 6cyl Perkins, the wagons were red, Furness and Parker were next door at Rowley Rd. I obiviously know more about the Oxford depot, so would be quite happy to mention a few more names, like Harry Hopkins the manager who had his own delivery firm (platers) in Coventry, but was swallowed up by Billy Horn.
Kind Regards to all.

Just noticed your bit on the Oxford thread, my Dad worked for BRS when they first got car transporters in 59, so he transfered on to them, they had Rootes Group on the head board, spent many a day with him, some other firms from back then Canley Car Delivery, Motorways, and I think another was Masterways but not sure on that one.
