Reading the thread on shared cabins reminded me of the ol coutances ( poole to cherbourg ) . I was on the new freighter a few weeks back and recognised one of the stewards so asked him where it ended up , only bloody venezuela ! Apparently she got there ok and is now working out there somewhere. I didnāt even like crossing the channel on the ā ā ā ā thing never mind the atlantic .
The one thing i will say about the Coutances whilst it was a real shed, the bunks were the most comfortable, much thicker mattresses than the newer boats.Having said that the Contentin rocks
just as bad on a rough crossing!
The Coutance is now named Rosa Eugenia.

I beleive there is another new brittany boat starting out of either Poole or Portsmouth to Santander very soon called the Amoric.

She is working from the Venezuela mainland to one of their islands in the Caribbean, could be Aruba.
I liked the old boat in preference to the Cotentin, especially in the days when we got wined and dined for free.

The Coutance is now named Rosa Eugenia.
When Conferries bought the Coutance they first renamed her Outance and simply painted over the letter C.
She was then renamed Rosa Eugenia on arrival in Venezuela.
Always thought it was unlucky to rename a boat, but ferry companies seem to do it regularly.
If the Amoric is the same design as the Cotentin then it will be interesting to see how long it takes to get the stabilisers sorted out - as many will know the Cotentin was extremely ābouncyā at first.
Its a passenger boat similar to the Pont Aven.
What was that small passenger/freight ship called on PTM/Caen route,Brittany Ferries. Was in use before the bigger ships, came in to use.Was 1991 to 1995 ish, guessing here.Is rouitiers in Ouistreham still open.Owners had dogs on the counter, normal in France.
are you thinking of the Mathilde

Normandy Shipper ? , The Routiers was open when I was last there, but had changed hands and was full of Gendarmerie eating there ,I think there is some sort of police training place there as I stopped the night in the hotel opposite the terminal and there were several staying there
Correction to my earlier post the Rosa Eugenia (Coutance) is sailing between Puerto La Cruz and Isla De Margarita, which is just of the coast of Venezuela.
Amazingly (well to me anyway) the other ship on that crossing is the Maria Rosario, which was the Purbeck, Coutances sister ship.

Further to your last post and having nothing better to do ( well you can only mow the lawn a few times a week ) I doubted what you said about the Purbeck was correct as I was sure I saw it being used by Commodore on the Portsmouth / Channel Island run a couple of years ago as The Goodwill at least I thought it was with the funnels at the rear each side of of the outside deck by the lift , It turns out it was not the Purbeck and you were correct but it took the long way round to get to Venezuela ,via New Zealand and Australia with an operator there. I got the information by Google search on ferry-site.dk/ferry

As you may know Coutance did a few Portsmouth - CI runs last summer, prior to being sold.

The small passenger/freight ship was the Duc de Normandie. The āCoin du portā was run by Claud & Didi,Didiās daughter Carole now runs the tabac on the N13 at Moult.Still got her dogs.

Is that the one down the street on the right at the last set of lights, just after the car park on the left, as you are leaving Ouisteram?

Thatās the one,not the last lights thoā,thereās another set by Brittany Ferries yard.
Just talked to Colin from St Genis de saintonge who said the small ferry could have
been the āReine Mathildeā.As he maybe older & most certainly uglier than me,I will
let others decide.
Where in the world did the Duc end up.Was allways ill on it,as it was quite small.
