Court reforms vital to tackle ‘scandalous disgrace’ of backlog, says Ken Clarke

Before the pandemic the government, or whoever was in charge back then, sold off court estate and property, they also reduced the amount of time that judges could work for.

Before the pandemic the crown court backlog was approximately 55,000 cases.

Post pandemic that went up to about 70,000 cases.

For the magistrate court backlog that was roughly 389,000 cases nationwide.
