Courier work

Does anyone know of a forum for potential courier companies to talk to active couriers.
Not with regards to pricing but types of vehicles, who to contract hire from for the best rates, annual mileage etc?

This any good

codforum.org.uk/

FWIW I’ve always bought vans, never contract hire. Most popular are sprinters, personally I run Renault Masters, most I got out of one before I sold it was 365,000 miles, expect to get 250,000 minimum.

Thanks Albion. Any thoughts on Peugeot Boxers?

Never run them. Been Renault since I started in '91, bar a few years late 90s/early 2000 when Renault were rubbish and I moved to Transit for about 3 years. Had three Sprinters around 57/08 plates, but reckon overall they were no better and by the time we finish with them, residuals are low whatever the make.

Way I look at it, if you don’t see a lot of a marque on the road, there’s a reason why. That’s probably simplistic, but as I celebrated 25 years in business in Feb, it’s worked for me.

Thanks one last question. I don’t know whether to go big with a box or curtain or medium box obviously going smaller reduces types of work.

That made me smile - whatever you get it will be wrong. Not helpful, but truthful - sorry! And applicable whatever size of vehicle.

Larger box will cut down on weight, smaller box will cut down on length. I think I’d be tempted to go with the medium, but the day you get it, someone will offer you a load that’s four meteres long and you’ll curse me

I started with panel vans, we were doing a lot of plastic trunking at one point, so it was good fit. Could get cartons in still and a couple of pallets. Added on some urgent response spares that were often a jiffy bag or carton and it would have been bad news to have a box body.

I’d go with gut instinct, when I’ve not, it’s usually been a mistake, or more of a mistake!

Have a look at Shed 5, some good advice on there. I wouldn’t bother with MTVan as the site owners seem to have abandoned the ship
