Hello everybody. I would like to know more about this job role. I saw many advertisments about courier job with a good salary rate. Is it true what you can earn about 400-600 per week? And what about insurance for a van, does it requires some special or enough just simple? I would like to know everything about this job, because i really thinking does it worth to start it. Thanks

A lot of them are just scams. they say you can earn £400 - £600 and then get you to spend upto £50 on a book (aka the courier bible)

This then tells you to get a van, get business insurance (courier) and a list of courier companies in the uk. Most of it is common sense.

To give you an idea, I looked at doing it as a subby to a company called Rico. small van (eg vauxhall combo, ford courier) The rate was 50pplm (pence per loaded mile)

a 100 mile would earn £50 + 100 mile empty to return to base would earn zilch so 200 miles for £50
You could be lucky and get a back load or a double up (eg 2 jobs paying 50pplm going to the same area) but it is not all that common.

as above take a look at the forum in the post above.

If you could get £400 per week why are there any truckers in this country.?Sadly there are more scammers than parcels needing moved.

Of course earning £400 a week is easily possible. The trouble been your costs will be £600.

Think about it. Wages alone I would want £500 a week. Then fuel, insurance, finance etc.

You wages come out of the profit so 600 turnover per week would give you about 200 quid to live on per week but that is before you pay ur NI stamp and put some away for the tax man so in reality it’s about 100 per week. Small van rates haven’t moved in over 7 years in 2007 I was paying 112 -120 per litre . And that was at 50ppl. And work was plenty full.

Don’t believe the scammers telling you can get 400 for a laptop to London u can’t.

Wanna buy a bible only £50 per month and ill send you atlest one job alert aday

To be perfectly right, you can  Or 1200 pounds per box to Paris. But such jobs are not the everyday bread, and they are not found on the scam websites

Don’t touch it with a Barge Pole.
I was a Motorcycle Courier back in the 80’s (I know it’s a long time ago :unamused: but the same principles apply now ! )
I used to work out of Luton & was self employed. From memory, we would get £10.50 for a delivery to London/City & about £12 for south of the city, 3 trips a day was ok because you would use approximately 1 tank of fuel (if you took it steady :unamused: which I rarely did) so you could make around £25 per day, less Running costs Tyres/Chain & sprockets/Brake pads/Brake discs/servicing/Tax/Insurance/MOT/Nat Ins/Income Tax etc.
But if you only had 1 trip a day & a couple of locals for £2.50 (which was most or the time) it wasn’t worth it. You would be struggling to keep afloat after 6 months.
If you just multiply these rates by about 4 you will probably come to a figure you might get now in a van, a couple of Big Problems though-is that fuel has gone up about 1000% & insurance is also stupidly high.
We had 1 Good contract for Radio Times- 3 times a day from Waterlows, Dunstable then a printers near the M1 then on to Tottenham Court Rd/Radio Times office then return to Waterlows. I think it was around £13.50 a trip & you were on it for a week at a time, 1 in about 4 weeks, so you could turn over £200 less all the above costs.

I was a courier for a year & ended up breaking my leg in Fleet Street, no sick pay, no accident insurance, so I had to rely on my parents to support me whilst i waited to mend & it took over 18 months for the insurance to settle.

If you do decide to go ahead, don’t believe what the controllers tell you, all they are interested in is getting the job done. Yes you might have days where you take a pallet from Base to Glasgow for £300 then a return from Carlisle back to somewhere near home for another £150 but those days will be very rare indeed.
So good luck but make sure you do the sums.
I also looked at Rico same as Semtex, when I turned up with a pad & pen the Guy asked me what it was for, I told him “to write the figures down” he told me that I did’nt need to do that & he would explain everything, I lost confidence straight away & told him that I might think about it/NOT.

all of the above, and the xmas parties are lonely

The best way to make money with a van is house removals if you can get the work.

Yeap I heard a lot of about house removal job, its good money ofc if u working own your self, but if for company they can offer you 7-8 pound per h. Still I`m very confused about this job…

Yes you can earn £400 - £600 per week however you’ll be doing 12-13hr days doing typically around 100 drops per day for one of the parcel companies. The kind of “rush job” one parcel courier work is usually ■■■■■■■ by taxi firms - especially round my area.

You will need special insurance for the van as a courier which will cost an arm and a leg. You will also need goods in transit insurance to insure what you carry and public liability (around £130 for that).
