On the M6 s/b just before j19 or n/b just after j19, there is a farm/factory that pumps out white smoke/steam…what do they do there as i go past quite often and always wondered what they do…
On foreign trucks they have green circles with ‘L’ and ‘3’ on the front…what do these mean■■?

Thanx
The steam comes from a place that makes grass pellets.
L means it’s got a low noise kit fitted.
3, or whatever number, is Euro emission number/rating of the truck.
L stands for “Larmarm” and as has been said, it meets noise emissions standards, has an insulated engine, low noise tyres etc, without it you can’t drive after 2200 in Austria.
The place on the M6 is a grass drying plant … basically takes fresh mown grass … dries it … then presses into pellets … some may end up in those pet shops that sell stuff for rabbits etc.
I did some stuff a few years ago … little bags of hay for rabbits … about 4 handfulls … if you worked it out an old-style small bale would cost about £2000
Should have said … all that stuff coming out of that chimney is mostly just STEAM … water from the grass.

I have often thought what a waste of energy that is, they use the steam from Drax power station to heat greenhouses and it works a treat.
In the Eastern Bloc that steam would have heated a whole city for free
