Well, it was American

Well, it was American

…and that’s a good thing■■?

Most large trucks here are built very poorly. Your Peterbilts and Kenworths and Western Stars are built for owner-operators, and the Macks are built for longevity, but everything else is pretty much bunged together as quickly as possible. In those days, White was wholly owned by General Motors, and it showed. Most drivers of new tractors even today need to carry around a set of screwdrivers and wrenches to re-attach all the bits that fall offf the truck in the first few months. I once had the driver’s seat in a new International come completely off from the floor while driving down I-95 in the Bronx!!
