Council overkill

hgv drivers,if you go to the islington council website and look up their councillors andy hull can be e mailed about this scheme of his, dont know if he will reply to mine, just have to wait and see

The company i work for do london reguarly with abnormal loads for TFL.

I went thru SE london last week with a train track load for boris’s TFl up the A2 fully marked up for abnormal load. I had train tracks on for the parking area thats being built in lewisham for boris’s new long tubes!

The amount of cyclists/bike riders that moved about me was unreal, if i had hit anyone it would have been my fault. When are the goverment etc going to realise we as drivers can only do so much!

It’s far too easy to buy a bike. You go to a shop, lift one off the rack, sit on it, tell the shop assistant you love it, pay him, and away you go! But the harsh truth is, not everyone is cut-out to be a cyclist. It’s a bit like horse-riding or ice-skating. Some people just don’t have the co-ordination OR the concentration skills to do it with confidence. Some of them will go on to develop those skills as time goes by. However, others will not progress at all. And it’s these people who are potentially lethal to the rest of us.

As a keen cyclist myself (been cycling since the age of 9, and now in my late 40s) I have come across quite a few cyclists over the years, who still cycle like “beginners”. For some strange reason, their co-ordination, balance and focus don’t improve or even progress. A perfect example of this is “some” women car drivers. My ex-wife and my sister never developed a “feel” for the gearbox. From day one when they were having their very first lesson, they pulled (dare I say rammed) the stick into its position, with no sense of feeling whatsoever. It was all very mechanical. And ya know what - 25 years later, they both still drove their vehicles exactly the same way they did right from day one! And it’s the same with cycling. Some just don’t progress. And I hate to say it, theres a certain type of woman who shouldn’t be cycling at all. Especially on the streets of London at rush hour!

having to drive in London a on a regular basis, I thing one of the major problems is everyone is in such a hurry, impatience of both driver and cyclist makes for a recipe for disaster. when ever I go into London I drive it with kid gloves!!! I would sooner wait than try and push through, if it takes me 1/2 hr or 1 hr longer so be it, at least I know I have not killed anyone. if a planner was on my back the answer would be “it will take as long as it takes” fortunately I don’t have that problem on the whole, if the boss does ring and asks why its taken so long he always gets the same answer “because its London” now he doesn’t bother asking. I WILL NOT NOW OR EVER BE PUSHED that is when mistakes happen :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

A definite +1 for that post

Why do you think that? Its complete rubbish to suggest that when an accident happens, between trucks & cyclists/pedestrians, that the driver gets the blame. If there had been an accident it would be investigated as normal. If you were proved to be at fault then so be it, equally if it wasn’t then no action would be taken.
