Council chairman likes the road closure

In the Frome Standard, the chairman of Hinton Charterhouse council reports he likes the peace and quiet with the road being closed due to a land slide at Midford near Bath.
He writes"It is nice to have a peaceful village without the lorries".
He then says this “However,it is inconvenient for us all and we are finding it difficult to get to Bath on the A36 but without the through traffic in Hinton businesses in the village were struggling and to remind customers the two pubs and shop are open”
Hinton has a 7.5 ton weight limit.
Years ago a poultry factory was burnt down in an arson attack due to 24/7 operations of poultry trucks.
How does Mr Clemence expect the pub to get drinks deliveries and the shop will have a lorry there too.How inconvenient is that, disturbing their peace and quiet.

The proposed three month road closure on the A36 from Brass Knocker Hill to Bathampton has now been postponed to September.
It was due to start in the Spring this year.
The road is slipping and needs girders to support it.
Avoid Bath on March 2nd due to the half marathon.
There is a truck ban on the A4 and A36 from 6am to 18.00.
The truck route will use the A37.

There has to be hundreds of places throughout the country that wanted rid of traffic & are now regretting it. Always whining about trucks thundering through the village or town, place clogged up with cars etc, then once the bypass has been built they turn around & start whining that all the shops & pubs are having to shut because there is no passing trade.

Ive posted similar to this over the yrs. Having travelled vastly in the eu and experienced a total different attitude to trucks and drivers why is it that the uk cannot accept the fact that they need trucks to survive and provide for both accordingly.
regards dave.

P.S. I know it will never happen

The UK Nimbies can not get it through their thick heads that they have made a lorry journey by buying goods.
If they want to ban all trucks, then nothing would be made.
I wonder if the weight limits and truck ban routes have been suspended to deliver sand for the sand bags at the River Thames towns.
The headline would read “Nasty smelly juggernaut killer monster trucks flout weight limit ban to deliver sand”.

A new leisure complex for a supermarket, cinema and cafes and a pub/restaurant was rejected by Wiltshire County Council at the formerBowyers sausage and meat pie factory.
It is an eyesore now,an ugly old building with a river going past it.
Trowbridge Council rejected the new complex due to traffic volumes getting to the new site when it was built.
What the Council forgot was, when Bowyers was open many years ago,the factory had cars in and out for shift workers and lorries going and out the factory.
Residents wrote to the paper to remind them the town coped with the traffic.
They now have the go ahead to build a new Cineworld and complex at the old Bowyers site.400 new jobs will be created.
