Could 25 metres be on its way?

I think truck parks would be be able to handle them.
I think the main use of them though would be for trunk work.
Also when you get onto site my guess is you just drop the trailer and a tug puts it on bay. Saves having to mess about with the site to make sure it fits.

We are starting to get a lot of 36.5m A Doubles here in Australia

23m here in NZ, with weights over 60 tons on permitted routes. The roads are now getting trashed. Save money today on freight, pay more to repair down the line

All this Covid crap is even starting to brainwash ME ffs, along with everybody else…when I read the thread title, my first thought was Social bloody distancing :unamused:

Unless we are to be paid a substantial pay rise for driving them, they can shove them up their arses for me, not interested, but no doubt it will be something like another fiver a week.
Maybe the ‘Look at me in my big truck’ posers will volunteer to drive them at the same rate, but no doubt a Kelsa bar and a set of spots will be the deal breaker for them, or at least pay for them themselves weekly on very easy terms…

If you see my point… :bulb:

(For those of the hard of thinking…Another opportunity to demand more pay, but drivers being drivers will ■■■■ that opportunity up for themselves. :bulb: )

I’ve been around long enough to remember getting the first 38 ton artic on our firm , we were paid on percentage , ergo overnight 20% pay rise . You should have heard the whining at the office window from the other drivers . Not fair , the lorry should be shared etc . They all got updated over time and then proceded to cut the job to ribbons for even more money . Idiots have always been around .

The tables are interesting. Considerably lower permitted weights on individual axles and bogies compared to UK/Europe. I would think it will result in much lower road wear. Nine tons on single steer axles is not uncommon here, and I think ten tons is possible.
Im not sure how practical twin trailers would be in the UK. It’s such a small landmass compared to Australia or the US and very congested in parts.

Update. Takes to the road on first of March commercialmotor.com/news/pr … 25m-artics

Ok, I looked into this some more.

You cant put the front trailer on the bay because of the wheels right? they poke out like 2m from behind the trailer.
Or am I wrong? If so that seems like a pretty big issue. I suspect if your uncoupled to the 2nd trailer and just pulling the first trailer those rear wheels will be hard to see in your mirrors when turning as well.

Yup. It’s a very poor design in my opinion. As I said previously I’ve no idea why he didn’t just use examples that already exist in Europe. Maybe he needed his ego stroking

Maybe I am wrong, but when turning are you going to be able to see that mid section axle swing? That comes out a long way.

What I really don’t understand is that all this has been solved by the Dutch (again, waayy ahead in trailer design…) years ago. And as the Netherlands are much more challenged for road space and maneuvering space on industrial estates, if they can use them, then the UK should be able to.

Pull under the canopy and open the curtain, perhaps?

It can be fitted with a roll back body or retractable suspension. There’s absolutely no issue driving with only an A trailer.

Wheel Nut:

WhiteTruckMan:
There was a wagon and drag trialled some time back with a full length rigid body designed (I think) to take 5 full size air cargo containers which iirc would put the body alone at 50ft in old money. This one rigid body was mounted onto the bendy vehicle by some odd arrangement of a kind of sliding 5th wheel, and used to frighten the bejesus out of people when it went round a bend as it looked like the box was coming off!

I don’t remember who made it, but I gather it wasn’t a great success!

Does this ring any bells with anyone?

That was De Rooy, they built it and brought it to the UK once, the ministry were waiting for it and turned it round at the port. He was not welcome here.
