Cost of hiring a Tractor Unit

pepperpot:
Hi guys
just so i can put everybody straight on this, i run a small exhibition company (just me and the wife!) I used to run clarion suzukis (then rizla suzukis) hospitality unit for 3 years, for the last 10 years have run a hospitality unit for daf trucks and have a new 105 to tow the unit. They are happy for us to lease it through the winter if we can find some decent clean work for it. Normally through the winter i work for a tour company out of redditch and previous to that i worked for one out of sheffield so have extensive knowledge of europe.
The truck is on our ‘o’ licence and insurance rememberimg that you need fairly specialist insurance for a high value trailer like those that are used in motorsport.
Sorry this turned into a little bit of a cv but muckles if we can be of any help to you please feel free to message me.
Regards
Richard

No problem about your CV, I know they have a bloke that drive the truck, he takes time off his normal job to do it. which is why they are thinking of hiring a truck I’ve also helped them out from time to time and wouldn’t mind a trip like that myself. but I’m not so selfish that I wouldn’t give them all the options

Really, I bet some of the guys who own the cars they are taking down arn’t just petrol heads :grimacing:

Although I’e done the job full time, I still like helping this bunch out, it’s a bit less intense, the drivers are there to have fun and it’s a very hospitipal team, especially if you don’t mind mucking in, nothing to much a bit of car polishing or clearing up if I’d and of course washing the truck and I’ve never had to put my hand in my pocket for accomodation, food or drink. I did end up as a chauffeur for the driver at Le Mans, he wanted to go out for a drink after the race, so asked if I wouldn’t mind dring his car if he put me on the insurance, no problem, got the keys to a smart Merc for the night made a change from my old Ford.

Sounds like pepperpot is the man for the job.

Hi muckles
They sound like a decent bunch of guys who really enjoy there racing!! Obviously i wouldnt want to step on the other drivers toes and iam sure hes already very much part of the team but if i can help them out even if they need a bit of help with the hospitality side me or the wife will be happy to help.
Whats your story then, have i seen you post some race transporter pics?

I don’t think they need hospitality yet, but I know they’d like to get into bogger things, so I’ll put your name and experience into the memory bank.
I started motorsport work in 2002 by working for a Formula Ford team when it was on the BTCC circuit. and for the last 6 years I was working for a GP2 race team, supporting all the F1 races in Europe and a few on the fly away races. I was asked to leave as an alternative to getting the sack after I had a bit of a go at one of the mechanics who’d spent weeks winding me up. (I’m normally a very easy going person, but every has a breaking point. :imp: ) but my leaving had more to do with the team had becoming very cliquey and I wasn’t part of the gang, so for certain people this was thier opertunity to get me out of the team.
Motorsport great work, but you have to deal with some very inflated ego’s. :imp:

Now working for a bloke I’ve work for on and off for years, Pays a lot less than I was getting, trucks have seen better days or even decades and I’m swapping trucks every week as I’m covering for holidays.
But the work is not to bad and they try and give me jobs that take me past my house so I can get home during the week and at least I’m working with some decent blokes.
