As a country the UK already has a stockpiling system in place, Warehousing we call it. We have warehouses up and down the country in places you wouldnt think.
These warehouses supply every industry you can think of in one way or another including the supermarket sector.
Your not seeing empty shelves in your shops because our stocks in the UK are low or even due to the Coronavirus bringing everything to its knees, Corona has a lot to answer for but empty shelves isn’t one of them.
People stockpiling their homes selfishly and unnecessarily denying more vulnerable people essential supplies is a huge nationwide problem right now.
Not only is it causing our vulnerable members of our nationwide community to further struggle or simply have no choice but to go with out of essential items, it leans on the very thing we all heavily rely on now more than ever - The transport industry
The transport industry has always known how to step things up a gear to keep up with demand and keep your shelves replenished be it Christmas, events, times of crisis or day to day items we all take for granted.
Unesessary stockpiling your home takes away much needed resources from the transport industry.
We have many many sectors of transport but to stay on subject lets stay with supply and distribution
You may see many names on the side of trucks and as businesses goes they spend all year competing for contracts being the biggest and dominating the market but another side of our transport network that’s always been around but usually behind the scenes, we get the job done day in day out and in times of crisis we pull together as an industry to keep our country afloat.
Right now that is already taking place companies are working together and not competing against each other, doing everything we can to keep the wheels turning big or small. The problem is alot of our trucks are being diverted to the food industry to keep up with the panic induced problem created.

What about the NHS? They NEED us too! they also rely on essential supplies to look after you or your loved one.
Put it this way I would much rather be carrying medical supplies on the back of my truck than toilet rolls.
Hospital beds, ventilators to face masks and gloves ALL NEED distribution around our country a mammoth logistical task at any time but just about impossible if trucks are over utilized in the food sector for no good reason.

Please think about that next time you shop, our warehouses are well stocked, your transport industry can keep you supplied as always but… We need your help! STOP panic buying! All you are doing is stockpiling
Essential limited resources and anchoring trucks to distribution centres for hours upon end.

The transport industry- We know what WE have to do. Please Stop putting empty shelves in our way

Just a trucking perspective
