Corby Chilled

Has anyone got any info on Corby Chilled?

Hi Ghost,

Believe they have a place at Newark, always seem to run decent machinery, don’t know what they pay like. Have you tried their web site to see if there is any info on there worth having?

corbychilled.co.uk/

I have done quite a bit of casual and agency work for their Larkhall (near Glasgow) depot.
They have depots in Corby, Newark, Heywood, Bristol and after the take over of Express Dairies a depot in Alcester.

For the Larkhall depot all the night work is trunk between depots, I think this is the same in all the other depots as well.
Day work is usually delivering to the supermarket RDC’s and various Cash and Carries etc. Then collections from food manufacturers back to the depot for the night trunks.

All the kit is decent, all lease motors renewed after 3 years (Larkhall anyway).
I was only casual but the regular guys seemed to be happy with their lots.
I would think it’s one of the easiest jobs around.
Wages are salaried for four shifts a week and an extra payment if you do an overtime shift.

Hope this helps.

I’ve done agency work for them in the past out of Corby. As has been previously said, all the kit was good and I don’t recall ever having a ‘difficult’ job with them.

The one negative thing I would mention was some of their start times: I can do an early start like the best of 'em but 0200am is neither here or there!?! :open_mouth:

see them in tesco’s at livingston alot.kit looks ok as 4 pay i don’t know.

Thanks for your replies. I have got an interview & assesment with them next week (I haven’t driven an artic since my test so it will be interesting). It sounds worth going and having a look at.

Good luck theghostofcain with the interview & assessment drive next week  .

is it the Newark depot you’re going to?

Good bunch of lads there.

As I no loger work for them anymore, I think I can make a comment now…

The Trucks are all new-ish Scanai’s with the odd MAN/ERF thown in… All very nice top line stuff…

The runs are easy enuf, mostly to RDC’s with a pickup at a supplier on the way back… Because of the RDC’s the day’s usually last atleast 10hrs, if not longer, but you are only sat on your bum…

Not too bad for pestering you on the phone, altho i’m sure each depot would be different…

No nights out… Altho I have seen a couple parked up at night, but mostly not…

Personnaly I loved the job… Mainly for the nice trucks…

If I had any bad comments, it’d be as above… Odd start times… I’ve had loadsa 2 and 3am starts… but i’m sure you’d get used to it… Oh… and there ain’t usually much ‘spare’ time during a run…

I gather pay isn’t too bad…

Chrisie…

well done ghostie let us know how you get on.

i worked for them at newark a few years ago (about 7 i think!) and ive also worked there recently on a casual basis via an agency. steve reid is the transport manager and a nice bloke too. its all easy work and good equipment, the hours can be quite long dependant on run. the moneys not huge and you should expect to be working at least one weekend day in your rotad hours as a new starter
if you need any more info pm me and ill give you my mates number who still works there

As an off note, I just spent £95 on a Corgi ‘Corby’ truck… It’s by far the nicest one in my collection…
