Asking on behalf of my old supervisor Les, long story short he’s sacking off tramping and fancies a new job. Called me 30 mins ago telling me there’s jobs at Copart. Don’t know what shifts etc but what I seek is pay and what they’re like to work for. They’ve told him nights out are rare and it is 33-40k dependant on cars moved. NMW per hour and then bumped up per car moved, 15 quid I think Lea said. Problem is how many are likely to be moved and of course his man is telling him everything he wants to here.
Money is about right, but it’s only class 1 because you will be using a spec lift on a 26t rigid. Insurance salvage work so non runners, rta destroyed cars and burnouts! Not an easy job but the money can be earned.
Isn’t that a Copart site at Daventry? if so they’ve lorry and drags there, technically designed to carry up to 11 cars though the ones i’ve seen have always been level loaded more simply, so surmise 7/9 cars per load if it class 1.
Probably be a right ball ache having to winch cars all the way up and onto the peak etc, then have to winch them at least part way off again, but i’ve never done the parts/accident side of transporting so only surmising, and i haven’t got the foggiest idea about earnings.
One good thing you won’t have to worry about tree strikes etc or the odd extra scrape…
I don’t work for copart but do work in the same field as they do. The wages don’t seem far off to be honest, as mentioned earlier it will be a 26t rigid with spec on the back, makes reversing interesting when you’ve only got a small car in the spec that you can’t see until you’ve lost it.
The job itself is fairly easy once you’ve got to grips and learnt how to winch properly, it’s not rocket science. You’ll be amazed at what still drives, had a bmw 3 series estate last week fairly new one, missing front wheel, good job it was rear wheel drive. It’s not pretty driving them but sometimes it has to be done to get it somewhere near your truck, then the winch can take over.
The biggest downside (which I find), is burners, you can check them as ,uch as you like, get halfway home and their chucking all the diesel out, never a nice clean up job.
All in all it’s not a bad job, plenty of free coffee at various garages you collect from.
