Controlled stop

Was looking through the guide for the class 2 and I see it says the controlled stop is no longer done is this true ?

It was done at the test centre together with the reverse. They scrapped it a few years ago.

Do u know is it the same for Northern Ireland ?

Technically it still exists in the test and is marked as such on the test report. It is very watered down now and is done when the candidate is told to pull up for the angled start.

In days gone by it was done in the test centre driving towards 2 cones 200ft ahead, reaching 20mph and stopping within a vehicle length.

The word “technically” is the important bit. The reality, in practice, is that there’s nothing to worry about in regards to controlled stop. Since the system changed, which is a few years ago, we’ve picked up zero marks for it.

All the very best with your training and test, Pete

Thanks guys
