Just never leave the EU mainland.
I drive round Europe for a company involved in motorsport, support side not a race team. I would prefer to drive a truck in Europe any day of the week than drive in the UK. Generally less traffic and far better facilities for overnight parking, not just the services, in fact I try to avoid parking on them and prefer the truckstops off the motorways.
I assume by problems you are talking about clandestines in Calais?
The main problem I find is how unpredictable it can be you can have an easy run in one day and the next time it turned into chaos.
I also don’t park anywhere near Calais, not even for fuel now, I have the luxery of having the driving time and being allowed to plan my run to allow this, I’m sure for those on regular haulage it can be a toss up of parking near Calais or stopping early with time to spare which will impact further down the line.
Don’t know about the money on the haulage side, have heard one or 2 companies who pay really low wages, but then I’m sure others aren’t doing to bad. My pay is good, but then my boss isn’t competing against East European competition and drivers wages.

I don’t drive from an F1 team, and mostly those that do aren’t part of the race team.
But loads of other Motorsport out there, and if I can get a job doing it I’m sure most others can, but the thing is very little of the job is driving, loads of other stuff some good and some not so good.
If it’s what you want you need to knock on doors and expect a few rejections before somebody needs a driver and will give you are chance.
If you really are interested send me a PM and I’ll give you pointers on how to get a job and a realistic description of the job, the good bits and the bad bits.
We do France Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark. Calais is what it is, there’s much less hassle than there was. We park away from Calais. As muckles says its a bit unpredictable. Worst time was summer last year when the strikes were on.
I do Europe weekly.
It is possible to find continental work, but there is not a fraction of what there was ten or twenty years ago. Back in the day, probably 70% of the drivers on a Dover-Calais ferry were British, the last couple of times I’ve been not only was I the only British driver on the ferry, I think I was the only western European driver on it. Nowadays, even the Poles and Lithuanians moan about the Romanians and Bulgarians cutting European rates.
Vern, was that you coming through Irun late on Friday night ?
I’m coming back to trucking after ten years of being a driving instructor so having to do my cpc but thier is a firm on my doorstep that delivers tractors diggers etc all over Europe and they’ve said to give them a ring in a week as they are possibly buying a new truck. They are paying decent wages for the area and have good tackle.

No bud. I was on the M5 headed home.
Mike, FI team driving is not a glamourus job and not a dream job, once at the venue, the driver is a gofer and general dogs body, tasks from peeling spuds, chopping up veg, getting grocery supplies, setting up display stands, cleaning and cooking breakfast at 5 am for all the crew .
Most never see the races .
For concert driving, it’s mostly driving at night, and if you want to earn more, then help out the roadies on various tasks when you should be resting or asleep.
To be fair I would much rather have a cushty little container job but I do fancy the European job.

There’s no glamour in it anymore… Used to be a lifestyle… Now if you ain’t found a place by 19.00 to park up your bxxxlcks. You might be lucky to see 1 English plated truck on a two week trip, going the other way…
