Container work paid by the mile

Seriously though, I thought mileage bonuses and the like were outlawed years ago for HGV jobs.

That is absolutely dog mess is that,
Never in my time have I seen such a ridiculous pay structure,
Iv seen jobs that pay a basic then a percentage of the trucks earnings which is fair enough if your boss is honest
But that is just ridiculous,im actually quite shocked by it…

Hilarious. Laugh and walk away.

This pay scheme has been worked out by a young accountant type,

So who are the company so others can applyfor this top job…

Name them.

Ken.

I’ll bet it’s Containerships in Teesport,Ken - look at the second line of the printout.

Didn’t our Lucy (Rikki’s missus) used to work for them ?

Containerships Stockton on Tees

How odd, I’ve never heard anyone moaning about them. Thought they would be the hourly pay plus night out kind of operation.

One thing you have to bear in mind is that it’s not like most container jobs - it’s really an ‘own account’ operation.

Containerships own the quayside, cranes, boxes, trucks - and of course the ships…

It still seems an over-complicated pay structure, though…

Sounds like a nightmare to calculate from an office pov. Much prefer a timesheet that says, start at x, finish y. Simple for both sides to work out.

Its definately conships, that name at the top is Tricia the gaffer
As others have said though they never get slated and 4 drivers have just left Prestons to go on for them and they are raving about how good a job it is!

cheekymonkey:
Why is it ok for this industry to use all these three card tricks to pay their employees?
Just an hourly rate. Thats all thats needed.

+1…exactly, that way you know exactly where you are.
Container work is one of the few things I aint done on this job, but I’ve heard mates say that most of the time is spent on the bunk whilst getting tipped, which is fine when you’re getting paid for it.
I would have thought waiting time would be factored into the job rate, so the co will be getting paid for it, but they aint willing to pay the driver. :unamused:
You always know when this sort of crap is presented to you as a pay structure that there is only one party that will make money out of it…and it aint you. :bulb:

I would just have said ‘‘bye bye then’’ as soon as that was showed to me.
Let some absolute mug take it mate and walk away. :bulb:

Prestons…

Curtains on wet windy days. Steel on timbers. Hanging around for ever in Coca Cola factories. Trying to find a slot for your trailer in the darkness at St Neots. Moving two trailers in the darkness to get yours in at St Neots in the darkness. (I speak from experience)

Conships. Four twistlocks a day. Sleeping on the bunk for hours on end.

No wonder they’re raving about how good it is.

Penny pinchers ,Pathetic greedy barstewards who probably lobby the Government moaning about the fake driver shortages .

Which firm?

These types of pays schemes can work out very well for the driver, usually the driver’s reps, which helps create a small pool of lackeys surrounding the reps who get the next pickings of the work dished out that suits the pay.
The rest of the blokes who don’t ■■■■ them off getting the crap depending on which sadist planner they end up under.

This suits the small band of the A team, and suits the unscrupulous employer who gets mucho work out of the majority whilst paying them peanuts, any troublemakers poking their heads above the parapet get priced out of the job by being fed crap consistently.

I speak from experience here, my first transporter job was similarly badly paid, but it was worth persevering with just to get the skills.
At one point i ended up on the Friday afternoon for several weeks collecting renters from one site to go into central london, being a second load it paid no bonus at all (load, drop or mileage) only the cars themselves, so a 4 hour job could well net me a whole £3.50 before stoppages :open_mouth: :imp: , within a couple of months i’d found much better and gone.

Unless the job was specialist so you have a target in sight (ie using them as training to get into a unique sector), i wouldn’t recommend anyone to get involved with these types of schemes.

I nearly went there for an induction day recently but I changed my mind beforehand. Reading that I am glad I did. No wonder they are “desperate for drivers” to quote their own people.

Apparently there is good money to be made doing multidrop on the tautinliner as your paid for each time you open the curtains plus mileage but there was no vacancies on this side of the company just basic mileage box runs,

Needless to say I’m still looking for work.
