CMA-CGM used to pay set rates for different areas - ie £■■■ for Liverpool to West Yorkshire. The obvious downside to this is you could be getting the same rate for Huddersfield as for the far side of Leeds. On the upside, they used to use several small hauliers who worked direct, rather than farming it all out through one of the big companies.
This was a couple of years ago though, so it may have changed.
