Anyone remember the old seawheel boxs with doors at rear and all down one side.Due to having a heavy beam to support the doors they were heavy on one side.Had a few scarey moments going round r/bouts.
They were built for a Vauxhall contract from Elledmere Port to Antwerp also used on the Allegro car from Oxford to Eastern block - Cheq I think
Built by Metro Camel Birmingham
Worked for Seawheel 9 years

I always wondered why they didn’t put grease ■■■■■■■ in those hinge clap bits. Obviously they are going to corrode inside with sea spray getting in
I’m sure there’ll be a few ■■■■■■■ greased this weekend
OMG I was sucking on a ■■■■■■ or two when this thread was born.
As far as container doors go I had a stiff one today. Bloody thing took a forklift and sledgehammer to get shut enough to pass Hams Hall pre insertion inspection.
In hindsight I could have made this post a lot ruder but the wife’s just informed me she is going to bed which is code for coitus…
Catch you lot on the flipside some rather easy to open back doors are waiting for me upstairs.

Get off line & Get Upstairs then, what are you waiting for? - The starting pistol!!
our forklift driver had to use her forks to close a containers doors, the driver would not have done it otherwise, some of these doors are bloody ridiculous
Stiff doors are becoming more common these days, due to all the scrap we do. The frames get bent/damaged by the grab drivers. Maersk use to scrap the box with the load, but the Chinese couldn’t keep up with the demand. Plenty of brand new boxes have been scrapped after one load!! Now they get reused. They look like they’ve had a bomb go off inside them
Had a warning the other day about a door falling off totally whilst being opened. Hinges where so corroded they just let go. Driver was fine as he had his hi viz on.
Wait until you have to use a DB box…doors without hinges !!!
Surely a door without hinders is not a door it’s a solid side
The DB boxes have a weird and wonderful way of operating. They did not have hinges. They had a pin sticking out of the top that would slot into a hole in the door frame, and they had a pin and a gear wheel at the bottom of the door. They also had a long bar connected to the bottom of the door connected to a type of knuckle. To open the door, you would manoeuvre this bar so that the knuckle would sit on the container floor and lever until the pin was released on the bottom of the door. this would then swing open…

Stand on a pallet or two: makes you taller!
Or do you have to wear a hi-viz vest and a tin hat, wear breathing apparatus and have official special training to stand on a pallet nowadays? Robert
I that would be classed as scaffolding so you would need training, a permit to errect and a hard hat and harness.
I never had a container door fall off but I had a hinge snap on one a while back. I thought it was gonna fall off and jumped out of the way it much easier to move after.
Big hammer and a scaffolding pipe is the way to go and when that doesn’t work a fork lift.
How of you box drivers have problems with container doors…I know we are supposed to check em etc etc etc etc but some of em are a right pain in the arse
Now im a bit of a short arse as well and find getting to the handles on the hi cubes a bit dodgy as well
I have a big lump hammer and trust me it gets used but i pulled a 40 foot standard out of manchester freightliner last week and when i eventually got it opened it was hanging garment box…Good job I checked it eh
i’ve seen the doors closed with forklifts before when doing box work
i had one box so bad left it at the dock and they had to cut it open
allways open doors with care had a 40 foot loaded with truck trye’s when i opened the door two fell out on me got out of the way fast
im five foot 14 dont have much problem opening doors watch monday be a nightmare now .my only gripe is when there is nothing to keep doors open and you have a slope to reverse down always worries me that
Couple of bungee cords do the trick, if the string have snapped off the doors, and there is nothing to hold them back. Found this out to me cost a few years ago. There was nothing to hold, the doors back with and I was backing up to a loading bay with the roller shutter door down. Can anyone guess what happened?
Thats right the door swung round, but not to the side it went straight round and pointed out towards the door that I was backing up to. You shoulda seen the mess, it went straight through the roller shutter, god job no one was stood the other side  . Thats why I always check it now.
