Christ some of you lads get stressed way too easily, no wonder you find what should be a stress free job stressful. Its just a bloody message giving you fair warning of an upcoming issue, what’s the harm in that? I’d rather that than be told last minute.
Agreed! This site has turned into SnowflakeNet.
Modern phones have so many options for configuring incoming calls and texts that there’s simply no justification to complain about them if you get them. It’s your own fault for not setting it so you don’t see them until you’re back in work. But regardless, I don’t see the issue anyway as the call/message is being done as a courtesy to you so you’re forewarned of the issue and gives you the opportunity to make alternative arrangements should you wish to do so. Personally I would rather know in advance than have it dropped on me at 5am Monday morning when I’m still half asleep and in a crappy mood from having had only 4 hours sleep.
Having done agency night work for many many years being contacted in the middle of your sleep was a regular occurrence. It nearly always required some firm words to the office staff pointing out the errors of their ways and eventually I’d get them trained into simply sending a text message with my start time for the night and making them aware that they should take it as received and confirmed because I wouldn’t be disturbing my sleep to reply to it. Once they know you’re good for your word then the ‘system’ works great and I can leave my phone on silent and simply check my start time when I wake up in the late afternoon.
Maybe I’ve been doing it wrong all those years and should have reported them all to VOSA and insisted on starting a fresh 11 hours rest every time they sent me a text.
