Considering going Back on the Artics

Having Been Away from the game for 8 years , digi card and CPC Would need renewing would be worth while is there Any money in driving I would be interested in fridge work or tippers tramping wouldn’t be a problem , I’m probably rusty on drivers hours and legislation as I’ve gone into the Muckshifting Game Bulk Earthworks but it’s seasonal and not much happening during winter so that’s why o considered going Back to wagons but have no idea what sort of money is out there for a weeks work.

Mate of mine just went from tankers (class 1) to tippers (class 2) and took a pay cut as well as now having to adjust to a radically different pattern of work. Up to 14 drops a day vs 2 or 3 before and they are making him do a course extra-curricular (non-CPC) plus the relentless grindset of tippering about etc.

He’s not liking it.

I wouldn’t want to tramp in a fridge , when I did them regular you did adjust to the racket they made but a odd night out I did with one a few years ago taught me never again , tippers I’ve a mate who did them until firm went bust & he loved them , but according to him he wasn’t doing 14 drops a day , more like 3/4 runs from what he says .

Depends on your age etc whether it’s worth it or not , most of my mates who are non driving jobs have earnt as much doing half the hours , builder next door start at 7.30 am & is home by 3.30 , lad across road ( gas board ) works from home , lad who does bathroom is 7/7.30 start & is home by 3 , i get up 2 ish & yesterday got home at 17.45

It’s a job but if I was young I think there’s easier way & more family oriented jobs about for the money , best luck whatever you decide

I also think you need the right mentality , I just want to get on and get finished , not arrive here at 5.30 am & at 6.30 am he bring the vans into load ( I’ve only 2 palls ) , last time I was here I left 9 am ,

Maybe young , kids , mortgage you want the hours , so are happy to sit everywhere for hours , me it does my head in , and invariably every day there’s somewhere that ■■■■■ the day up ( adds 3/4 hrs to the day ) .

This is what I’m on about , I don’t do especially long hours , but it’s still 13 hrs av over 2 days whil all the neighbours are about 8 for the same money there starting 4/5 hrs later , and most days home earlier ,

I’d drive a lorry , but I do think there’s better jobs / pay / hours out there

Still deciding really if it’s worth going back I’m 51 now and with age comes the bad back ETC but the work in currently doing on heavy equipment is a long day site I’m on is 11 hours 7 am 6 pm finish paid 10.5 hours and is busy all day as long as not rained off , in winter work is dead the traffic would be Another issue I see many Motorists have disregard towards HGV’s you would wonder how these car drivers got a license common sense prevails within some people.

8x4 tipper work is relentless all day it’s like being in a race with very little rest bite, Some companies expect drivers to even torque there own wheel nuts

If your on distance work 1 or 2 drops it wouldn’t be to bad better 1 hit and reload but not multi drop .

They usually have a drawback though. When I was contracting in construction it was like feast and famine unless you got a regular slot in a company. And the regular Joe Blow average work at a fixed-location can get old real quick and is likely bad for you long-term more so than trucking.
