Connell & Finnegan's

Hi, I’m the daughter of a driver that worked for Connell & Finnergan’s for over 25 years. He is retiring in September after working with HGV’s for over 40 years. Despite having worked for other companies, he still admits that his most enjoyable (although hardest) days were working for C&F.

The saddest thing is that we don’t have any pictures of him at C&F or the Leyand Constructor he was so proud of. (He even had his nick name painted on the door!!) If anybody has any pictures we could show him as a surprise, it would be wonderful.

I’ve seen the pictures on this forum of the 6 wheelers, but he always drove the 8 wheelers, so if you could share your pictures with me for his 65th birthday, that would be great.

I think your forum is amazing!

Many thanks.

John’s Daughter.

Hi Johnsdaughter-Welcome to trucknet. Some pics here from an earlier thread SHERRANS & OTHER M/CHESTER FIRMS which was started by Tipit.
This photo was added by Tipit and shows one of C&F TK Bedfords along with one belonging to Pecks @ Piccadilly M/Chester

The next three pics were added by bob-lad I hope he wont mind me putting them on again for a good cause.

Wish your Dad all the best from everyone of us on Trucknet.
JOHN

And here’s another one for you.

Try to get your Dad on here and he can tell us a few tales from his time in transport.
JOHN

Dear Stanfield, thank you so much for posting these on. I know he’ll be thrilled! I’ll get him to join the forum once he’s retired as, based on the stories he still tells us, he’ll have plenty to keep you going with! Thanks again.

Johnsdaughter (Liz).

Hi Liz.Ask your dad if he used to run scrap to Samuel Fox(BSC) at Stocksbridge Sheffield in the early 80s.I used to pass a C and F eight-legger - either a Scammell or AEC,can’t remember :unamused: early in a morning on Woodhead when running back to Maltby off nights. The wagon would be on the bridge at Foxs for 0600 so he was an early starter.

Hi. I know for a fact he ran the Woodhead route in his 8 wheeler, as he tells a story about going over Woodhead whilst it was closed due to snow…at the request of the Police!! He is a born story teller my Dad and has a fantastic memory, which I’m sure many who knew him, wish he hadn’t!!

Even at 65 and 2/3rds he still gets up at 5am to be in work early so it was almost certainly him!

I haven’t told him about this site yet but will be doing next week on his 65th when we show him the pictures. I’ll certainly show him your message and post a reply next week. I can’t wait to show him all the pictures…he’ll be delighted.

Thanks again and I’ll be in touch next week!
