Hi im quiet confused about the tests i will have to take to obtain a C+E licence i passed my test pre 1997 so have c and c1e on my licence already basically do i have to sit theory tests? or straight into C+E training? thanks im a little confused.
Hi Mate
yes you will still have to take the theory test and the Hazard perception test .Then sit the C practical driving test only then will the C+E PROVISIONAL be added to your licence and then you can take your C+E TEST .
Hope this helps regards Roy

Do you really have a C? If so you must already have passed a Class 2 test (as they were).
I guess you have C1 and C1E (car test before 1997). If this is right, you will need medical, theory and hazard perception to get a C provisional category on your licence. Then, of course the training and test. Once you have a C you can train and test for CE.
The good news is, once through your test, you will not have to complete the 35 hours of CPC until Sept 2014.
Hope that all makes sense.
Good luck
Alan

There is a BIG implied question in this statement.
How’s the work there always seems to be hgv jobs going…
That is the bit to consider before you go ONE STEP further.
Do your homework on the job situation in the area you live first.
Don’t believe that there will be agency work there just because agencies say there is.
Be aware that many employers will require you to have 2 years experience before they will consider you for a job.
I am not trying to be negative - just do the research and then, if you still go for it, good luck.
Alan
Totally understand you mate this 2 years experience seems a bit of a problem how do you get it if you can’t get work. I live in Manchester and will deff look into jobs work etc. I already got a decentish job and its secure but I can’t stand it much longer. All this is a bit of a risk but I need a change. Was thinking of getting licences and cutting hours at job and doing the odd shift with agency’s to get experience then when I have enogh keep applying for jobs and hopefully something good might come along eventually. Sounds like a plan what you think. Thanks for all the advice appreciate it.

I can fully understand you needing a change, I’ve been there too. But is LGV driving your best option? Can you live on the wages it will pay (particularly until you secure a full-time decent job)?
I think the chances of getting any decently paid agency work are remote, without the problem of having to fit it in around another job.
Is being a professional driver really your ambition, or does it just appeal for ‘reasons’ that may not be reality? If you are determined to do it then get on with it, the sooner the better, and good luck to you.
I live in the NorthEast and there are definitely more drivers than jobs here. It seems like everybody and his brother has a Class 2 (C) licence, usually funded by the Job Centre or by some redundancy scheme.
I am not being unduly negative here, just saying ‘be careful and choose wisely’.
All the best
Alan
