Confused DTCO

Just done first day in new truck 68 reg.

My day, start 7.30 8.30 to 10.30 hospital appointment on rest other work till 12.30 break till 13.00 other work till 15.50 drive till 18.50 had 30 mins break tachometer reads that I need a 45 minute break? Surely the tachometer should have re set at 10.30?

The instruction booklet is not for the one in the truck.

In what way is it telling you that you need a 45 minute break?

When I had a 30 minute break it showed 15 remain in display?

Hmmmm yeah. If you was on rest between 8:30 and 10:30 your drive time should have reset. You’ve only done 3hrs driving and had 2 X 30 min breaks to cover working time and drive time.
Have you linked your days?

On the second break when did you put it to other work ? Was it exactly 30 mins or did you leave an extra minute on break? As sometimes it doesn’t register apparently if bang on 30 mins.

Did you do any driving between 0730 & 0830, if not then the rest period between 0830 & 1030 wont count as a break from driving, you cant have a break from driving if you haven’t done any

But thinking about it, the tacho shouldn’t be telling you that you need a 45 minute break after only 3 hrs driving

Probably showing that the 30mins you had is actually only counting as a 15 for your drive time…or you messed up your manual entries at the start at start of day…one of our night drivers did that the other week, wiped the weekly rest and replaced it with other work (apparently he didn’t push the button enough times!)… got an hour or so up the road and tacho was flashing up 4:15 driving so I pulled in to Leigh Delamere to cover my jacksy! Oh wait…did I just admit to making a schoolboy error whilst trying to make out it was ‘a mate of mine’■■

I’ve done this also  , had to have a 45 after only driving 30 mins

If you don’t want to there’s no issues at all in ignoring the tacho, you had a fresh 4:30 when you started the shift just like any other. The printout with explanation covers it.

You’ll just have to write down the drive time it’s started on

And just be careful as if you’d had a 15+ in the last driving period the previous day, then the tacho would reset after half an hour, you might then set off and drive 4:30 plus whatever you’ve done to start with do you’ll have drove over 4.5 without a 45 but the tacho would say you were fine, but you ain’t!
