^^^ Be grateful for small mercies ArcticMonkey.

That’s right. Folk like you - usually poorly educated, not overly burdened with intellect and often getting on in years - don’t like anything that challenges their perception of themselves

Ooh mg …the irony of that coming from YOU. [emoji38]

I forgot to add excessive pomposity to my previous list…you even make Conor look humble . [emoji38]

I don’t agree with all Articmonkey says on this, but nice cop out to him from you .
When backed into a cul de sac play the arrogance card…love it.

I guess the key difference is I can recognise an argument on merit - I can recognise its logic or the evidence even if I don’t find it persuasive.

The mask meme? Simply stupid. Easily dismissed for its absurdity. If that’s pomposity I really couldn’t give a rats ■■■.

Advance a stupid argument and I’ll call you out on it.

Ps… what do you see as the cul de sac?

I’m sure he can speak for himself, but it was obvious (to most of us anyway) he was not advocating that the full face mask was a viable option, it was more of a way of illustrating the inefficiency of,.and his perceived reason for, the surgical mask.
It was an exaggerated comparison to illustrate a point.

The fact that you are convinced that the surgical mask is of use,.and is a genuine entity, (and he never will) , creates a stalemate situation, hence the use of the cul de sac analogy.
Ok?

No not really.

He appears to think that it’s an all or nothing scenario. In fact that’s the very basis of his meme.
Certainly most scientific thought on mask use now seems to suggest that surgical masks or face covering all offer some degree of mitigation - reduction - of transmission risk.

It’s a protective measure designed to offer SOME protection at minimum inconvenience.

Does it stop it 100%? No.

And that was never the intent. Does it reduce that transmission rate? Increasing bodies of research suggest they do.

But…imagine this: I’m wrong (it did happen [emoji6]) and wearing a mask has absolutely no impact. What’s the hardship? Will it kill me? Does it impact me in any meaningful way?

If he’s wrong - what’s the potential impact?

I really can’t understand what the massive issue on masks is.

Most of us wear ppe at work…

As for it being a genuine entity - it most definitely is that. Whether as an entity its effective at what it’s being used for…but I’m sure that’s what you meant [emoji6]

Right mate, you believe what you think is true, and carry on wearing your mask., it makes no odds to me.

At least the self appointed Covid police seem to have given up, some places I have walked into such as MSAs,.Gregg’s etc,.I’ve not been challenged yet, but if I’m asked civily rather than being told,. rather than be an arse I’ll put a face covering on, even if I personally can not see the point.

For the good what these blue masks do (which is hardly anything) then the bad what they do far outweighs the advantages of wearing one.

My main concern is infants not knowing anything different than seeing the majority of the population wandering around with only their eyes on show. Young kids need to see facial expressions in order to develop, instead they are growing up in dystopian nightmare. Also it can’t be healthy for the mask wearer to be breathing out into a mask and then inhaling that very same air. When will people realise that this merry go round is never gonna end until enough people stand up and say no-more. Or are people happy towing the party line no matter how much it impinges on our long held freedoms what our forefathers died for.

Asked civilly?

Why should you have to be asked if it’s the law?

You expect to be asked politely yet lack basic civility to others…

People may not be asking for fear of confrontation.

I reckon there’s a couple of people on this thread that are stocking up on yellow paint

noticed folk wearing a mask but on 2nd glance its cut a slot across the middle. so i did that to mine so i can breathe easily ,this way nobody gives it any thought . i spose if you were on your break time you could whittle out the material down to wafer thin , or waffler thin if youre on the continent

If you feel the need to do that, you obviously don’t believe the hype, so why bother even wearing one at all, is it because what people will think of you?
I wore one last time, but I’ve just changed my views on a lot of this since then.

I’m going to upset the confirmists, the purists and the snowflakes on here, but as far as not wearing a mask goes, I really don’t give a ■■■■ what strangers think of me…never have, it’s just the way I am, so I ain’t in a hurry to comply.
Ok I know it’s now compulsory by law for whatever reason to wear a one., but as I’ve said if I’m reminded or asked politely, I’ll cover my face, if and when.

Just to clarify my position on all this…
As I keep saying I’m a bit on the fence with all this stuff, (aka confused .com)
.I’m neither an anti vaxer with crackpot theories,.an anti vaxer with credible theories, nor on the other side of things… a mad conformist and obsessive compiler with everything I am told to do, and believing what I am told…I am somewhere in between.

So much so (and if anybody is mildly interested  ) I did decide to turn up for the booster appointment I had been pondering today, as my wife persuaded me (she’s a very persuasive woman  )
So I’m a fully paid up member of the (if what I’m told is true  ) the ‘‘3 years to live posse’’,.and as you can see, I’m neither bothered nor ashamed of it.

You’re such a rebel that you’ll do as your told…but you’ll wait until you’re asked . Politely…but then you’ll do it.

As revolutionaries go, you’re more of the Wolfie Smith type.

Power to the people! [emoji1787]

By the way - that makes you a conformist. And unlike you, if I feel passionately about something, I don’t do it.

Ref my last post.
2nd paragraph.
2nd sentence (starting with…‘‘I really don’t’’…)
Hope that explains my position towards you.

Freedom for Tooting. :sunglasses:

Oh yeh., and to explain why I’ll do as asked…
It’s a manners thing, just that I don’t like coming across as an arrogant prick…unlike yourself who appears to have no problem with this evidently.

Got it…but isn’t the manners thing doing it first without being asked?

Or do you feel that the requirement to get them to ask you politely gives you your due respect?

You don’t like coming across as an ignorant prick? Odd. Would you say you’re prone to introspection and that you’re self aware?

See - ironically I don’t care what some people think either. But it seems I’m a little more honest on that front and quite aware of how it comes across.

And yet I manage the common courtesy of wearing a mask as required.

Go figure

Ok mate, cards on table here, with no clever response accompanied by mild insults etc…

Truth is I’m sick to ■■■■ death with all this Covid crap going on,.and sick of hearing about it…it’s ■■■■ incessant.
Ok., I know I m guilty of sparring on here with various people about it, thus prolonging it, but it really is doing my swede in big style…no kidding.
Sick of hearing about, it the news and radio is full of it, people talking about it all the time, hearing about social ■■■■ distancing., wearing masks, sick of people doing country ■■■■ dances when they approach me if I get too close, and all the rest of the idiosyncrasies pertaining to all this crap we have had to endure for the last 18/20 months or so.

I just want to try and live as normal as possible,.enjoy a decent social life, and not be pre.occupied with it all.
So yeh, call me selfish, but I ain’t really interested in wearing a mask, as a priority in my life, law or not., but yeh…if I’m asked I will more than likely will with a sigh and a ‘‘ffs’’ under my breath,.wishing for it all to end.

If it culminates with me catching it,.I don’t give a ■■■■, I’m more concerned if my Mrs catches it, tbh,.that is my stance on it…I get the not wearing mask in front of her thing btw before you jump in.

So yeh, that’s about it in a nutshell from my own pov.
Come back with a smart arse response if you wish, or feel the need to., I ain’t fussed, I’m just being straight with you . (after too many beers in front of the tv. )

The Beaver still remains prick free (apart from communicating with a couple on here that is).

And strangely enough, I feel fine and I’m not dead. Although very sadly I note that some people my age (40’s) who have had multiple jabs are…

@Franglais I would be really grateful if you could spare me an hour to listen to this and give me your critique?
They are 2 Telegraph journalists that have been doing this since it started so hopefully they are worth listening to.
They have a source in the NHS they call “George” and a GP they call “Clare” so they know what they’re talking about.
You could start from the beginning, or maybe from 28 mins in for an interview with a cancer specialist ( before going back to the beginning)

Thank you

Seems you need to sign up to the ‘free-trial’ to grab this which is a bummer as the journo for this paper-Alison Pearson-has always been a classy writer.Would love to hear her views tbh.

Concur,l threw a unmasked smile at a little bairn in tesco a few days ago as you do but instead of the priceless, unfettered return smile, just confused incredulity came back.Utterly depressing scenario.I’ve never been more ashamed of belonging to what passes for humanity these days.
