Even with fatalities to keep a road closed for hours on end is just a massive over reaction…
So obssesed with finding someone to blame…
Just clear it up and get the road open…
Would you say that if it was your child who had been killed…
Is having the road closed for 8 hours going to bring my child back?
With modern technology, it should be possible to capture all the evidence required to investigate within a couple of hours…after casualties have been extracted etc.
In fact lengthy road closures actually increase risk on the roads…they increase stress levels, which exacerbates fatigue which can lead to further accidents…not to mention how it forces large amounts of traffic onto smaller roads…

As I said some times its not possible to reopen roads due to contaminants on the road surface that can require a complete resurface before an engineer will allow it to be used. fuel for instance will get into tarmac and start to breakdown the road surface and if the volume of traffic drive on that surface break it down and spread the contaminant further then the area to be repaired is increased causing further delay …also if a further incident happens who’s at fault …yep the engineer…
■■■■■ uk, that was the best post of the year in my opinion, you are right, families trapped
in stationary traffic, I have seen babies crying due to running out of food.
Motorists that did not plan to there for seven hours, getting dehydrated and hungry.
I past the crash on the M5 at Droitwich, the queue went back 15 miles, they could have turned them around.
Spin the cars around, reverse the artics back, or remove the central reservation barrier, shut the other side to allow escape.
On police interceptors they had a machine that scanned the crash scene in about 30 mins and then it does a 3d image on the computer so if they can do it that quick why do they close the road for hours !!! the episode it was on was a fatality

Because it has to be done by a crash investigator who’s qualified and they aint that common as its an expensive and select training course not like driving a truck where any monkey can do it as shown on this and other threads

Toby the prob is they cant just shut a road like the M5 at the drop of a hat. it has to be checked ie the diversionary route.
Then they have to get Highways crews on site you know the cone chuckers but they may be on a job some 50 miles away doing another job where some muppet decided to jump in front of a truck because it wanted to get off at that junction 5ft away.
The logistics in getting the required vehicles crew and equipment in place takes time and as time clicks on so do the hold ups…

NILO Report for something very recently,
save us from the idiots:
"Nature of Incident: RTC. Police report that a male was sat on the roof of his car. Was steering his car with his feet. Driver lost control. Car collided with the centre reservation. Driver was thrown from the roof of his vehicle and landed in the carriageway.
Don’t act or drive like a c0ck and the roads won’t get closed
