Company withholding tachos Advice please

this is another example of tm not knowing the correct rules and regs yet they like to lord it over you if you get and infringment i once went over my time by about 10 mins driving once trying to park up so i did a print out etc
week later my ops manager giving it the big un about it saying i need to do print out and hand it in
when i said no il give you a copy of it and i keep the original as by law i need to keep it his face was a picture it was like someone had switched on a light in his head :unamused:
if it was me id be demanding them back but as others have said you can always jus say you have not worked for the last month

newtruckersdad:
Hi All
Advice please!!!
Sonny jim just been finished at his place of work after his 3 month review…problem is the company is holding his last 30 days paper tacho`s and are making it difficult for us to get them
Am i right in thinking he needs them to be driving for another employer/agency to stay legal,if so any suggestions!!!

The temptation to report to VOSA is massive but reports of being blackballed have been banded about…views on this also welcome…take vengeance or put it down to experience

thanks as always for your wisdom!!!

I’d of thought it was simple. Ring the boss up, tell him you need tacho’s to go to work, if you don’t get them you’ll contact the Traffic Comissioner for advice over their refusal. What way do you want me to go with it? And leave the ball in their court.

Don’t worry about it and crack on. The chances are he could go for 20 years without getting stopped. It’s just not that common if your in a UK registered truck.

I’v been stopped twice in 20 years

It’s unlikely he’ll get stopped but to be honest if he does I would tell them that he’s trying to get the cards back but the company wont give them up.

Christ, you cant not go to work can you.

Thanks everybody for their views and help…appreciated as always!!!
Tachos now recovered…sonny jim went to site…was asked to leave…simple no was the answer!!!well call the police your trespassing.....replied ill call vosa your illegall !!!…left 2 mins later with tachos…jobs a good un but dont think he`ll get a referance from them…putting it down to experience but that TM really does need sorting out!!!..We arnt quite finished yet…waiting on last pay cheque due friday…not expecting that to be simple!!!
Thanks again all who replied!!!

Somehow I think that “cheque will still be in the post” at least until they have their tachograph cards back after the requisite time has passed :smiling_imp:

JD, some of these “by the book topics” may just save a family man with a mortgage from becoming homeless!

A good criminal has to understand the law :stuck_out_tongue:

firms like that shouldn’t be operating.

also mate, would you WANT reference from a bunch of cowboys who run ■■■■ motors and don’t give a ■■■■? I wouldn’t

also mate, would you WANT a reference from a bunch of cowboys who run ■■■■ motors and don’t give a ■■■■? I wouldn’t. The guy wants reporting as he doesn’t know the law for a start, and how many newly qualified drivers are listening to his crap and believing it? Shut the ■■■■■■ down.

Dell, why should he have to lie to VOSA when he has done no wrong. they should not be puting tacos in a box and giving it to them every day surely? so they put card in box monday night and get pulled Tuesday…where the ■■■■ is the card??

The OP came on here asking for advise not just “bleating on about it”, he got a mixture of advise then he and his son chose a course of action which so-far has got them what they wanted and hopefully taught an employer that he can’t always do just as he pleases.

For someone who’s unsure about the best course of action it seems to me to be a sensible way to go about things.

When faced with an unusual situation have you never sought advise from people who may have previously been in a similar situation.

@ newtruckersdad,

Well done to you and your son on standing up to this idiot and getting the charts back, it’s easy to sit back and take the easy way out and I’m sure we all do that on occasions, but it’s because people let them get away with things that these idiots constantly push the boundaries of their authority.

jimmy m:

Your opinion there a bunch of cowboys. Nothing wrong with running old motors as long as roadworthy.

So you go to an interview without any references or names to drop of last employers, goodluck. :unamused:
