My company is using tachomaster, this allows them to do manual entry in drivers card. We have been told they adds up 7.5h of work for each day off or sick day. One driver has been off for 5 months but his average working time is about 48 hrs!!! Apparently if you are sick you still gets statutory sick pay and in their opinion they must add up 7.5h work because of this. Same if you on holiday, you gets money so they adds up 7.5h.
Is everywhere like that or they just want to save money, reducing drivers hours?
Only until they get tripped up by the rule of holiday pay to be and average of recent hours worked .

For the RT(WT)R time taken off work for statutory holidays, sickness, maternity/paternity should be counted as 48 hours per week or 8 hours per day if a full week isn’t taken.
I’ve no idea why they’re counting 7.5 hours per day instead of 8 hours though.
By the way, these hours added for the working time regulations don’t count towards your working time for the drivers regulations, so if you work 8 hours a day Monday to Wednesday then have Thursday off sick and work 8 hours on Friday you’ve still only done 32 hours (less breaks and POA) for the drivers regulations, but for the road transport working time regulations it will count as 40 hours.

The basic principle is that time off should not affect the calculation of the average in a fashion that allows more hours to be worked in other weeks.
If you do 48 hours on average, then counting sick weeks as 48 hours will not affect the calculation of anything. If you do less than 48 hours on average, then counting sick weeks as 48 hours will increase the average but it still will not exceed the limit.
And you aren’t allowed to work over 48 hours on average, so counting sick weeks as 48 hours will not cause the average to be artificially dragged down by periods of sickness.

As mentioned it should be 8hrs or 48hrs for a full week and everyone is like that because that is the law under working time regulations. It is to prevent employers from abusing sick leave and holidays by using them to bring down the overall average for the reference period.
Why are they doing a manual entry on your card? We use tachomaster and the option is there under edit day to add a sick day/annual leave/training day and many others. Theres no need for them to do a manual entry of how many hours you’ve (not) worked.
You’re lucky. If you bugger about too much in the sort of places where I’ve worked - you get 7.5 TONNE work, the “spud bashing” of driving!
They can’t input information into your card.
What theyre doing is filling in the blanks in your drivers record to comply with WTD legislation although as mentioned why they are doing 7.5hrs and not 8 daily I don’t know.
Don’t complain. It’s done to ensure they can’t take the micky out of you.
Shows how much of a load of pish the WTD is.
Lying on the beach in Marbella counts as 48hrs work, thank god I work for a decent company who care not one jot about this utter crap.
