Companies that Respect their drivers

DPD use scanners that route the run for you…I’m in with them at present. I actually like it! :open_mouth:

HA! when I covered the 7.5t for a week, the depot side wouldn’t let me loose with something like that just a running sheet  was asked to cover it again a few weeks ago but I’d been abducted by aliens at the time :sunglasses:

I had the paper run for a week…It was sooo much quicker. I was finishing around 1. Now on the Saturn, I don’t get back til’ 5 ish.

I mainly worked for large companies, and mostly I was just a number as was all the drivers. I didn’t mind that because they always run their vehicles to the letter of the law. I did 7 years of working for owner drivers at Rugby Cement, I had a lot of respect from them. They gave me the keys and left me to it while they went on holiday. I was fully booked from April to November.

I worked for DHL B&Q for 7 years, and felt respected there. There was a strong union so everything was done by the book. Probably a bit too much paperwork at times. Yes, respect is a two way process, you have to earn it to receive it.

I did work for one company that was absolute pants, planning was ■■■■■■ drivers were treated like crap, wages were ■■■■■■ most of the units were knackered, trailers were worse and the company’s attitude was stuck in the 70s. No amount of money would get me to go back in there, the turnover of drivers was/is mind boggling.

It’s a two way street in my experience. Treat people the way you would like to be treated and generally it works pretty well. I can’t be arsed with all the people who go around whinging and whining rather than getting on and doing the job, and my bosses seem to think the same way.

Life’s too short to waste it on being a negative [zb]!

THIS PEOPLE.

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of companies I’ve NOT felt respected at in 16 years. A certain Palletways franchisee in Beverley being high on the list.

Reed Boardall was also like that until I think it was around 1999/2000 when Stobart opened up a depot at Sherburn in Elmet and 50 drivers walked out in one day.
