The front number plate screws on to the bottom hinged tow eye cover ,itās common to see a 4000 in lez with it dropped down

Thanks. I see now. Although their cameras won`t.

Good question; I drove a then almost new, 05 reg Atego 6w tipper (demonstrator) and it was just crap. However my first truck was 12 years old when I got it (F reg Foden 4000) and it was a brilliant motor. Agency drivers couldnāt kill it, I as a newbie couldnāt kill it, but a month in the gravel pit as a stock mover didā¦Or rather the beltman did by driving about all day with diff and cross locks on.

I wont attempt a definition of "old junk", but will (repeatedly) point out that there is some brand new junk out there.... Age alone doesn
t do it. Maybe we would agree a well maintained, well designed, older truck is streets ahead of a brand new dog?

Something a new driver, on agency, struggles to drive.
My view is as long as it can pass a mot and can do the job , also is taxed and insured O licensed
It can be 20 years old for all I care I can still remember how to write on a frisbee

Just to put another twist on it , I used to work for an ice cream wholesaler based in Burgesshill in 2006/7 whoās trucks all 7.5t ranged from a 1992 j&k reg Iveco cargo 4 M reg cargos then 2 04 merc atecoās later followed by 2 02 atecoās , the mercās were 56 mph restricted but all the cargoās werenāt being registered before july 2001
I bet you couldnāt guess what truck I would always like to drive when I had the southampton or portsmouth round
Sadly they donāt have any of them any more due to Lez even though the younger cargoās had plenty of life left
you soon get used to driving the old nail on the firm-
my motor was in having some work done for a few days,so I got lumbered with the āspareā (56 plate daf cf75 6 wheeler)
thought it was dreadful at first,gutless/crane was REALLY slow, and four ton less payload than my usual motor(big pain in the arse on my job) but it grew on me over the week I had it.
although the crane was still painfully slow, with a much shorter reach(and leaked hydraulic oil like a collander),i got to like the smaller engine that liked to be revved ,the much better turning circle and manouverability over my usual eight legger, and much better on fuel.
I got paid the same for driving it.yes it looked abit rough, and was bloody filthy inside(big hate of mine) but so what? i go to work for the money ,as long as its legal iāll drive it.
i saw a post on here last week that suggested some firm with the blinged up Scanias paid £7.50 an hour? (joe sharpe i think?)-is that a joke?
Some think my boss is mad for buying a TGM as it has a āpoxyā 290 bhp engine and has no air con or electric windows. It generally has a liberal coating of dust in the cab but my boss regards it as a tool for the job, no different to our JCB or 360.
Anything made before I left school is old as far as Iām concerned.
Whether its junk, is entirely dependant on how its been kept both mechanically and cosmetically.
