Coming to Canada.. the Brits

:sunglasses: got a few mates still working in the super heavy haulage area for UK companies- and one has let me know there is a job on the cards in Canada later this year, no details yet - its been done before when Econofreight shipped over the Unipower to do a Nickel mine move for Bechtel, but still surprising that Canada hasnt yet got the capability to do it in country ( as far as I understand it, you can only get a work visa for UK employee’s if you can show that the capability to do the job is not available from a Canadian company, these guys are not moving over, its one project and out!, - price doesnt come into it as far as eligibilty for the visa’s as far as I know, unless you guys know better) - I dont have any details of the job yet but should be interesting

Fairly suprised at this really, I’ve seen some serious stuff being moved about over here particularly in Alberta.

Maybe its on price ? Maybe the client is insisting on who moves it ? Who knows but fair play to them anyway as it sounds like they want British lads which kind of says it all really…

Mammoet are over here too, they’ve got some seriously heavy duty kit too. There was also a move around Winnipeg the other week where they were using those self propelled modules to shift some transformers :exclamation:

Must be a big job, be interesting to see how it turns out. Keep us posted Rikki, if the lads have any questions someone may be able to help them out

Its surprising me as well , especially as all the major players have subsidaries in North America somewhere (ALE, Sarens, Mammoet etc) my guess( and it is only a guess) that what ever it is, is being loaded onto a ro-ro/barge over here somewhere and being shipped on the trailers , hence the guys here going over … We shall wait and see with interest,

I saw that huge thing Your talking of on the 75 parked on the median cross over bit, it was huge & I know it made the local papers round our 20, I saw one of those bridge trailers the other day over in Alberta you know the ones that make You think “How the F does that work” & yes Mammoet are a huge player over here.

Looking forward to hearing/seeing what its all about anyway. I used to like reading the guy from Southports posts that was on for ALE He put some of the finest ever posts on here & We could do with more like it.

As for visas etc in the years I worked for Keller they seemed to send men where they wanted when they wanted wherever in the world at the drop of a hat, I think if its not a permanent thing its not an issue.

Mammoet had a crew staying in the village where i live for 2 months last yr ,lol a right rogues gallery   …2 were from Calgary (married to Dutch women)where they were based beforehand ,a German and a couple o guys from down Texas way .
they were here for the wind farm expansion ,well mostly for the massive crane move /transformer station.

Saw something like this today on the A13 coming up from Tilbury docks.
Very impressive.

had a call from me mate - wih a few more details,- the road move isnt being done by the UK lads, but apparently the road move is very short. they are going over to do the off load , on site move, lift and skid into place of what ever it is, still dont know where it is, or what but he has been warned to expect to be away for 3 weeks on the job- he has promised if he can to send photo’s for Biglorryblog and on here

I saw an impressive Mammoet outfit in Alberta on Friday, push & pull set up & empty so ■■■■ knows what the slab with hundreds of wheels weighed…

If they are following North American operation procedure about 40 ton

oops sorry forgot to update this… At the time of the original post this wasn’t common knowledge, but the company is expanding their Canadian operation, its not a single job as I first thought, although that job is on the cards to be done, Sarens has opened up a full scale Canadian operation after buying out a lifting company,(Canada cranes) and has already “imported” guys who have experience using the equipment although they are/were also recruiting locals to train up (that’s not condescending the gear is highly specialised and expensive). word has it they have bought in a large number of road going axles for the more extreme heavy road moves, the last thing I heard a week or so ago is they were looking for SPMT (Self Propelled Modular Trailers) operators from Europe to go over either full time or on contract. My old boss is already over there in Nisku? ( spelling maybe wrong)

Pic above is of Sarens Canada setting off for a move, shamelessly stolen from my ex bosses facebook page

Ooh right by Edmonton Intl airport

Nisku is just south of Edmonton & is a bit of an oil town, I often load pipes & rods there. Lots of super heavy haul antics go on around there too to do with drilling etc & construction.

Are’nt Sarens a Belgium outfit?

The Head office is based in Wolvertem Belgium, and they have subisdaries in many countries now, and no matter which country your employed by you can find yourself working almost anywhere
