Great to read of a decent human stance your company took. Good on the person who was dealing with you. My best wishes for your wife’s recovery.
Guess it just comes down to who you’re dealing with as a person. I was at an airline operating. Finished late one evening to a phone call off my Parents that my sister had broken her back in an accident and was airlifted. No further info. I rang the company and said I wasn’t operating the next day. The crew controller whilst compassionate straight away launched into standard ops mode for these things and pointed out I was listed as ‘a no show’ and would need base commander to change it to something else. I pretty much said ‘whatever I don’t give a flying fig what you list it as’. Next day base commander rings and straight away informs me I can have day off but it will be unpaid. Sister made a full recovery after a lot of treatment. That company were decent on another occasion but being large and heavily bound by regs they never ever went above and beyond as they were a machine. That’s one good thing I’ve noticed about truck firms. For all the ■■■■■■ and blinding and ball bag comparing that goes on in haulage a lot of firms I’ve worked for have been fairly hands on when something bad happens.
Hope your good lady makes a speedy recovery fella.
We all moan about hours starts runs etc but when the brown stuff hits the fan it makes it worthwhile when your treated like a human and your actually valued big gold star to your company, nice to see in todays society.
Jeff
Yeah our company is good on stuff like that. I was able to turn around when the wife’s grandmother died no problems.
Top marks to your company there. A few others could learn a lesson or 2 there. Speedy recovery to your better half
hope your wife makes a full and speedy recovery!
as for the firm theyll get that back tenfold, karma is real.

Hope all is ok.
More best wishes for your wife’s speedy recovery. And good on Turners.
First and foremost, well done to your company who treat their staff considerably, and secondly, i wish your wife a speedy recovery.
Story 1. When i was having a heart attack up in Norfolk, my then boss asked if i could just do a quick trip to wales to reload…then go home…at least i got the truck back to the depot, and then after being off for a while, and trying to claim sickness benefit from the govt, he decided i never worked for him, and never even knew me, and that was after 4/5 yrs working for the big C. i did prove him wrong however with copies of weighbridge tickets with truck and my personal details on, i got what i needed, and he got a big fine for not paying our NI.
Story 2. A mate of mine who worked for Murfitts, was down in italy, and although he gave a months notice of his daughters wedding, and reminded them every week, they chose to ignore him, so when he reminded them once more whilst still down there, they said he couldnt possibly come home, so he dropped the trailer, and bob tailed it at their expense, and would give the keys over till they paid him what they owed him…job done.

The Murrfit bit sounds like the old time International Truckers Rules and Regs?
