Well done little ant for sharing those memories…i remember comart…beresfords.etc and i remember those wonderful old trucks…your dad was a very brave man to go all that way in a non sleeper heap of crap…which is what they were…although we didnt realise it at the time…its only when you look back at those times and the vehicles we have today…
Well Done…

Walkers AEC was taken at Le Harve in March 1970, that is the only photo I have, it was my Dads 1st trip across the water with the Foden for Berrisfords.

Now then are we sure that’s a Walkers AEC or is it a Leyland, now my eyesight ain’t what it used to be but the steering wheel looks White/Cream which would make it a Leyland, correct me if I’m wrong.

i’m not going to correct you - i was being presumptious wheels are too scabby to see if it’s the blue triangle or flying plughole on the centre boss
ok jj72, the other thing that made me think it may be a Leyland, was that the AEC had wider wheel arches. Great photo’s though, wish I had some of the Borderer I went to Belgium in, before being promoted to a Marathon, “which way to Antwerp docks”

Dieseldog,
The photo of me on my 1st truck driving lesson was on Antwerp Dock waiting for the Bananna boat to come in, there was about 15 Comart and 6 or 7 Moorlock and numourous others sat there for 2 days, there is a photo of the line up some where, but as yet I have not managed to find it, we all used to go down to the local bar on the edge of the doc at night in the back of one of the trailers hanging on the meat hooks and being pushed to the back and swinging out, great fun as a kid - Health & Safety no where to be seen !!!

Ant

Great snaps. When I was on swingin’ meat it was always fresh fillet steak a’la camion. Took the missus with me for a trip & all she wanted was spaghetti in Italian cafes. That was the beginning of the end …( for her )

Rob,
Unfortunateley no, they are the only ones I could find of his time on there. he did re join Beresfords for a short period in about 86 doing Swiss, after his accident in Germany in 81 he had to see if he could still do the job he had always done (to peacify the lawyers working on his claim) however, he was in to much discomfort driving and only did about 2 months and had to retire, he eventually got paid out in 87 - 6 years aftre his accident !!
Glad you like the photos
