I always thought this was a great looking truck,I preferred it before the extra axle and roof conversion were added.
Looks like it could have gone on a long trip to China,I hope not though.
Taken from Trucking International Jan 1988.
I remember buying that edition! Yeah it was a good looking truck,.I just wondered where it was now, It may well be at the back of the yard or garage waiting for restoration! Used to see it when i was in there yard while driving for lister halifax.
When i went to work at colletts in 1999 YMIR was stood at the top of the new yard, it was in a sorry state infact all that was left of it was the chassis the cab and the axles minus the hub reductions. This motor like there men was worked hard.It was sold to a breaker and exporter in 2001 just of the m25 and was placed outside their yard as an advert to get people in.The only part of it left at colletts was the bull bar with ymir badge on it ,this was made when it was new by Tony Bairstow at Watkinsonof Keighley in1978 at the time i was an apprentice mechanic there. The last big DAF3600 left at colletts was my motor and it was sold to the same dealer a few months later for export and at this time i went to work in the garage.
Thanks for the info and the update Scad mate, what a shame that she ended her days like that.
It answers the question that I’d often thought of,what ever happened to the old banger?
I bet it worked hard and earnt a few quid for Colletts,it must have been a good bit of gear in it’s day. I would have have been a handy tool with a nine speed fuller and a two speed joey box. It would have made for interesting twin stick gear changes.
Cheers mate.

When Tony fit the spicer box behind the fuller it took four miunites to cross the yard at watkinson in 1st gear it was ordered a slightly longer chassis when new to accomodate this and it also allowed to fit the extra axle years later ,ill see if i can find some more photos and put thenm on here.

It looks like both rear axles has been switched to a later model, had it something to do with the gear as well?

Wim.
Found this pic the other day, when it was doing the concrete beams,

As far as i know they were the original axles because when we needed a hub for a later scania we tried to use one of this motor and it was different.
These model of axes were introduced on october 1979, while the truck has to be registrated on march 1979. That’s why I am asking.
