Colleague begging for money every month

Hello

I have a problem at work. Were a small team of just 2 drivers but part of a medium sized company and my colleague who is of a senior position to me as a team leader and on more money than me keeps begging for money every month without fail. I fear he has a gambling addiction and owes money to a lot of people. He said someone put him in hospital while we were on furlough over money.

It started £10 here and there for fuel home and emergencies but over the last 12 months its quickly grew into a couple of hundred each month which as racked up over £2000 over 12 months. He borrowed £300 from my 80% furlogh money which took 2 month to get back. Each pay day i have to ask him for money back. Its never straight in my back voluntarily.

Tonight he has asked for £800 until tomorrow which i know very well will probably take months to get back only to lend money to him again and again. I have no savings and my partner only works 3 hrs a day but his partner works full time. I have to put the money into his secret bank account that his partner dosent know about

Ive been employed at this company for over 2 years but he makes me feel that if i dont lend him the money each month i could lose my job. Just dont know what to do. If he dosent pay back tomorrow as promised do i speak to HR or someone or what? Or would they just say its a personal matter and nothing to do with them. Really dont want to jeopardise my job as its very cushy trunking just 5 miles there and back and in this current climate theres nothing much out there other than agency.

Can see why you used “ZIGZAG” as a name. Not knowing which way to turn

Grow some , it’s your money not his,
It’s his problem not yours !!! FFS

If this is real ■■? WID

Go see your boss Why would you lose your job ■■?

Are you full time employed by the company?
Don’t know how he can threaten your job?

Why would you even consider lending money to someone who doesn’t pay you back?

If you can prove the payments and you say they’ve been made with menaces and duress it’s a police matter and constructive dismissal.Walk away now and don’t look back.

Yes im full time employed by the company over 2 years. Im just a soft bugger who hes latched onto but things have come to ahead now. He dose pay me back eventually in his defence after having to ask on pay day but he knows very well a week after pay day each month he will get that money back So after a big argument with my mrs i now realise this will never end and things have come to ahead now. Will have to wait to see if he pays me back tomorrow. Will have to apply for another job i feel to put an end to it :frowning:

“Sorry, I cant afford it”

How hard is that?

I reckon this is dozy.

“No”

You’re not going to lose your job if you stop lending him money. It’s just something you told yourself to justify your own reluctance to confront him about it

just tell him straight, thats it im not loaning you any more money, look him in the eye. Guarantee youll be smiling afterwards

+1

Tell him to sod off, sell something if he’s desperateand give him the telephone number of Stepchange.

His inability to handle his money is not your concern. You both earn roughly the same and you’ve got your bills to pay too.

Ultimately though unless you put your big boy pants on and tell him where to go he’ll take you for all you’ve got.

Can you lend me twenty guv ?..

I was gonna say lend me a tenner, but the replies would be hilarious

Find out what he’s betting on, then bet on the opposite!

Its a sad thing that. I drop regular at a place in Livingston now but they were in Bathgate. Nice lad on the forks, but every few weeks I’d be there and he just looked rougher and rougher. Like a crackhead.

He’s dead now ive found out after not seeing him for a few times and asking where he was. Overdose. Sad the way it can wreck a life of you let it.

Lending money is a business , my business is driving a lorry.

‘I’ll have to look for another job’ ? :unamused:
2 grand?
800 quid tomorrow? :open_mouth:
You need to strap a pair on bud, seriously… :bulb:
:unamused:
(Ain’t surprised you’ve fell out with your Mrs btw, I can not guess what she thinks of you…or rather I can.)

Be polite first time, tell him enough is enough, you’ve got your own commitments, if he persists tell him in no uncertain terms to ■■■■ right off !!
If he uses his seniority or whatever to make your job harder, take it up with your firm.

Sorry for being so direct, but seriously mate…, he’s making a complete ■■■■ out of you.!!.

Get a grip man ffs !

You know what, I was formulating a plan of defense for you on the given information. Then I thought “[zb] you dude” you are weak and deserve to be taken advantage of.

Hard fact of life you have just learned.
People are bumholes. Grow a pair.

every time you see him get in there quick and ask him for money as your skint with bills to pay…
even if you dont get anything from him then it would somewhat negate the need for him to mooch from you.

if you dant want a fallout, then just tell him youve had some sudden big bills and you cant lend him anymore until after your paid back in full…thereafter just do a nancy .
