Cold weather clothing

Now that the winter weather has returned what do you wear to keep out the cold from the skin out ? .

5 layers consisting of thermal vest, thick work shirt, sweatshirt, fleece, and then hi vis coat and a wooly hat, and yes it is colder in Scotland the further north you go the colder it gets, I’ve worked outside at minus 15c and 5 layers are still not enough.

Base layer usually under armour or something similar.

Polo Shirt
Sweatshirt or hoody
Decent high vis
Wooly hat

That’ll do it

A nice warm hat does it for me if me heads warm everything else feels warm.

Thermals, jumper, padded Hi Viz coat, woolly hat.

The missus came indoors after getting the washing off the line to be met with . “cold out dear, your ■■■■■■■ look like scammel wheel nuts”.

In Winter its important to keep your head covered and your feet warm ,possibly 2 pairs of socks.Us Gents could keep the N.C.O. happy with an odd sock as extra protection.

Blind cobblers thumbs!

Don’t wear lots of thin layers as it won’t work. The idea is to trap air. Try a thin base layer to soak up sweat, a fleecy top and a windproof/waterproof top layer. For extra warmth put a wooly jumper on underneath the fleece. Not forgetting wooly hat/scarf/gloves. Some outdoor waterproof footwear would be ideal with some thermal socks. Don’t wear two pairs of socks to keep your feet warm, you’ll find they end up colder. And the main thing for keeping warm is to exercise! If you’re active enough you’ll find you won’t need to wear half the stuff.

Remember you need to keep your torso warm (main core of the body). The reason you get cold hands and feet is because the body is restricting the blood flow to the outer extremities (hands/feet) to keep the main core warm. A body warmer may be a good investment.

And a little tip, if you ever get extremely cold make sure you can touch all your fingers on one hand with your thumb. If you can’t then get warm as your in trouble!

I’m still in shorts and t-shirt, not sure now much longer that’ll last but I’m not feeling the cold yet
