Coach hire

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

But of a random one I know but it’s Easter weekend and none of the coach companies are there. Thought someone here may know roughly…

Looking to hire a coach and driver in the summer for about 20 people to be picked up from East Sussex area going to Landgraaf in Holland to ski. About 310 miles and 6 and a half hours in a car… Would be looking to be over 3 days/2 nights…

Just wondered if anyone would have any idea as I don’t have a clue whether to expect £800 or £3000…

Wind up surely■■? Skiing in holland in the summer??

Lol yeah should of explained that a bit more . There’s a place called Snow World. Half a mile long all indoor and real snow inside, huge place they have 3 slopes, a freestyle park, chair lift, restaurant half way down etc.

Well worth going and very cheap to ski.

You don’t mention whereabouts you are, but Scotland and Bates have always had a very good reputation and a smart fleet.

Sorry I did mention it in my first post. Picked up from the East Sussex area, Eastbourne ideally but obviously don’t mind travelling round East Sussex to get a good firm.

You could try www.coachdriverforum.co.uk might have more luck there.I thought it was water skiing when I first read your post.

You’d be looking at 500 for a London day trip with one driver.
Your estimate low price of 800 would be way off I’d think.
How much luggage will you have as you may need to get a 49 seat coach just for the luggage space if you’ve got your own skis etc.
Also finding a European operator will be harder.
Just check what happens with breakdowns etc when booking things like this.

As above, a typical day out for a school trip is around £300, i’d say you probably won’t get much change from £5k

I’d say 5k is a tad steep as most firms will still work it out on mileage. It’s finding a firm which has the necessary documents to go abroad. They will tend to be the bigger operators though and that means the cheap companies can’t quote you.

Five grand for a three day trip from south-east England to Holland grossing 15 tonnes? Right, that’s it, I’m buying a coach! :stuck_out_tongue:

Try this firm. If you look at picture 3 on the gallery link, the white coaches in the background are colours I know them in. I came across them in early 2013. The drivers are top blokes and whilst they were helping us for a local job, some of them seemed more knowledgeable about European destinations. The price should be in the right bracket for what you are after.

Hope this helps.

I’m a coach driver. You’ll be looking 2-3 grand.

Don’t forget on top of the coach hire etc you’ve got ferry crossings for 20 people which is normally included in the rate

You’ve just hit the nail on the head there Harry Monk, buying one; now that is a cheque and a half. If you only have a couple of hundred grand you are definitely looking second hand. If you only have 100k it will probably be close to ten years old, and that’s before we get to insurance, fifty odd whiplash claims, ouch!

On the positive the driver will be cheap. Positive unless you’re the driver that is.

May want to look a bit more into them. If it’s who I think it was they were previously C & S Coaches of Heathfield. Pretty sure they had a few run ins with the comissioner and one night the fleet somehow went up in smoke.

Only know of them as JG Coaches and not any suggested previous history.

If you want 100% quality and clean vehicles then try Banstead Coaches. You will get a 100% top price bill but top service to go with it.

As one or 2 have suggested, you will get a bill in excess of £3k for what you are after. I have had a few rows with the school that my children go to over their choice of who they use for school outings.

The school have said cheapest price wins. Cheap doesn’t always buy quality and safety.

And yes I have both licences and have worked in both industries

I would certainly agree that the cheapest is not going to be the best choice, nor will it have to be a company literally on the doorstep of the first pick-up. You need a choice of vehicle specifications to select from (which will affect the price), a company who know exactly what you want and from their experience of doing the same job can make helpful suggestions; like talking you out of some plan which would add ££s to the bill, and a company who are prepared to admit up front that things can go wrong and can prove that contingency arrangements are in place. A miserable driver can put a serious dampener on your trip, so you need to know more than just that he is experienced, good companies will not only have a friendly atmosphere, but will be proud to talk about their staff and how long they have been with them.

Got a quote back. £6200 plus driver accommodation.

Ask Motts of Aylesbury …we have used them for a few things and they were competitive.
