Co-op newhouse class 1

Hi anyone did co-op in newhouse on class 1 store deliverys.if so whats the units used and trailers.also whats the drops like.thanks for any help

Worked out the place for nearly a year, most of the units have seen better days.last time i was in a few month ago they had some new scanias, the rest are volvo and daf.pulling single double and triple axl trls some deckers for the trunks.some tight delivery point, some blind side reversing.the staff at most of the shops wont help, not insured outside the shop, that old nut.i assume your in with the agency, wont be long till you fall out with them, they treat you like a dog, especially the manager (sm) he’s a total plonker thinks you have to do what they want when they want, even when your on self employed basis.but its like everything else you have to try it for youself to see, good luck.

Cheers.ill only be doing one shift as im jumping agenceys.i thought they ran they wee urbantrailers.how many drops is it average

I think they’ve updated their fleet now. All basic manual scanias though. Last time I was in was last year, not bad, plenty hours and work. Plenty work as many drivers refuse co op as too much hard work for some with heavy trolleys of juice and health and safety issues at many shops.

I just use to do a Sunday shift. Sometimes I had 3 or 4 shops back and then 3 or 4 shops again. Sometimes just a one or two distance hit.

To be honest I wouldn’t rave about the place. I’ve got two weeks holiday Glasgow fair soon and will be getting some agency work in but will give the co op a miss. Target and TDG mossend I’m choosing instead.

Ill not be bursting a nut for them.is it they wee trailers they use

I would give the Co-op a miss if I were you. Some of the places you have to reverse in through the car park with dithery old folk trying to drive under your wheels.

Yes,give it a swerve…last time i was in there a year ago their fleet was somewhat dated,05 battered Volvo tractors, tatty Scannys and some Ivecos on hire…trailers are in poor shape, some hazardous All the runs i ever got were localish to shops with front door deliveries, you are virtually ignored from the outset when you start your shift like with most DCs,you get hardly any help from shop staff,i couldnt stomach more than 8 hours in that poorly run dump… its hard work with a lot of their shops and with up to 5 drops a run it somewhat makes you want to tell them where to shove their runs…

I used to do a Sunday at newhouse when I could fit it in. The agency (ADR has the main contract ) were ok with me. I was paye as I already had a full time job,so no self employed/umbrella ■■■■■■■■. In the year and a bit I was there they only ever cancelled 1 shift on me,paid me every time on time and when I stopped they paid me holiday pay. My experience is not shared by everyone-by a loonngg shot.
My first shift was a 4 AM start. Turned up,was given unit keys , paperwork ,seals and that was it. In at the deepend it was-but I survived.
Now I am full time and enjoy it,99 days out of 100. Yes the drops are tight and it’s a bit phyically demanding(I’ve lost 3 stone, due to actually working rather than sitting on my fat arse all day),but if you can find a job in central Scotland paying more than 31K a year for 48 hours day shift-give me a shout,I’ll have a look at it.
For anyone going in for a first agency shift, try this. Tell the people behind the desk it is your first shift (with between 30 and 70 agency a day, they don’t recognise new starts all the time).
Be prepared to work, you may have 3,4 or 6 drops. Your job is to get the stuff out the truck into the shop. This could be a high street handball from a 27 foot single axle or into a supermarket from a 45. This is the job-the staff are told not to touch it till its in the shop-that is the deal.
Check all the paperwork-if it says 6 cages-dont deliver 4(you’ll just have to go back later in the run ),dont deliver 8(see last brackets). Remember if it says frozen, that will be in the lane, behind the bulkhead, dont bring the truck back with the frozen still on it defrosting away-you wont get asked back.
A lot of agency drivers stay for ever-some don’t last 1 shift. The fleet is being updated-yes there are some 54/05 FM’s,but there are 30 12/13 scania p cabs now. Every cab has just been valeted due to the state of them. They do listen sometimes. Overall,if you don’t do handball/work then don’t go. If you don’t mind a bit-it aint the worst job out there.

Think ill dodge it

I wont touch them and i enjoy a bit of grafting. There are better ways of making money though. Their fleet is a pile of scrap and the office staff are asking for a smack in the mouth with the way they talk to you
