Hi I have been offered a job at the co op lea green,is it ok there ?
I don’t know personally but a work colleague of the wife’s works there and loves it. how did you get on to that? is it through coop, winacaton or have you gone through an agency?
good luck with it.
I went for a interview with them a few days ago and still waiting to hear back, and that was directly through the co op
Not the easiest of jobs. I wouldn’t work there as an HGV driver.
-
Do you enjoy reversing into side street’s in town, whilst all the motorists are invading your space as they are desperate to get past you?
-
Do you enjoy tail lift deliveries and wrestling with empty cages after you’ve offloaded the full ones?
-
Do you enjoy getting abuse of the angry motorists, whom you are getting in the way of, when you are parked outside the shop, getting the gear off?
If so, go and fill your boots.

Still spreading the love eh V40LLY?
It must be horrible being you…
It would be even worse, if I had to do that ■■■■ each day.
By the way, are you a happy trucker. I sense that you are?

If you’re asking whether I have an outlook on life where I feel compelled to try and make other people miserable? Then no, I don’t!
Thanks for asking!

Nothing wrong with shop delivery, especially if they are your own shops.with their own delivery point.
Regular deliveries,no need for sat navs.
Sorts the wheat from the chaff

Even if; there’s car’s parked in the delivery bays and you’ve got to dump the wagon down the road, risk getting a parking fine, whilst you jog up to the shop to tell a member of staff that you can’t access them?

No issue whatsoever, you simply pull out find a safe place to park and call the shop to get the vehicle moved, or stuff it in the car park and sit tight.
You have priority as the stuff in your truck is needed for tne annoying customers to buy.
Never understood why so many drivers fear shop deliveries, its part of the job just relax ffs.
Only drivers who have never done shop deliveries see problems whereas others see a challenge.
I’ve done some shifts for Co-Op out of the Botley site (many moons ago) and it is/was a POP! 8 or so drops, cages in, leave 'em and load up a few empties. I regularly had a Oxford/Gloucestershire run…start at Brize Norton, down to Burford, (which was a ■■■■■■■■■■■■ and around Tewksbury/Cheltenham area. It wasn’t hard graft, if u couldn’t get near a store for a few minutes, like every other truck driving job, sit and wait a bit…I used to walk to the store, let them know I was nearby and explain the situation, no bother. On the bonus side, back then, most of the staff were young fillies and not some bolshy back door man! Times 'may have changed though and if you’re a lazy git, take Volly’s advice and stay well clear!!
It’s all go at the Co
I’ve done some work for them but it was for Lincolnshire Co-op which seem to be different to the green lot. Lincolnshire Co-op was great to work for, the office staff had the attuide of “It’ll get there when its gets there”. I normally had a local run in the morning then a distance one in the afternoon.
Yes the cages are crap but at most places there is at least one person that can help you wrestle them off the tail lift. The hardest part was finding the stores then working out how to get onto the loading bay, once you got that down its a pretty nice job.
On one of my drivin stints I did co-op shop deliveries from Dalcross (Inverness) and on this occasion I got to the drop at Fochabers and was asked to phone the depot, it seems the old cow managing the Glen Moray Drive shop had phoned the depot stating that I stank of alcohol and would I wait for someone to come and be breathalysed. This I did and was clear but he had brought another driver with him in case, just as well he did because no way would I driven for them again after that. But I got a lift back and got paid for the shift, he said it were company policy to ‘act’ on reports. Best job I had there was for Nisa on the same ind est going up the west coast from Ullapool to Durness in a 40 footer on those single track roads.
I worked for the co-op for 12 years as a manager. Bloke who brought my delivery was earning about 10k more than me, and working about 10 hours a week less. Pretty much all the drops were daft. Shops built to be delivered to by horse and cart. Not HGVs

This is why they have to pay more than the general haulage firms. But, I don’t think that bit extra they do get paid is enough to tempt me, so I’ll stay clear. Not that I live anywhere near a Co-Op depot, anyway.
Whilst I can’t speak for other parts of the country, agencies around here are always desperate for drivers to do shop deliveries. Was watching someone deliver to a local Co-op store at 7.45PM last Saturday evening, which reminded me why I stick to industrial deliveries or construction related driving.
I’ve done a Tesco Metro store delivery in Liverpool City Centre in a pedestrianised zone on a Saturday night (years ago) and it wasn’t a pleasant experience.
Young students crossing the road, in crowds, on the approach to where the shop was. Same problem driving out, again.
Even one student thought it funny to wind my trailer legs down, whilst I was ■■■■■■■ about with the cages on the bleeding tail lift.
