Clubs and Dances, Pubs, were truckers delight

Hi Harry,
You and Suedehead would make a couple of good marriage guidance counsellors.
Cheers Dave

hiya,
Marriage Guidance, Dave there’d be more broken up relationships if i tried offering advice, my knowledge on wedded bliss would be as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
thaks harry long retired.

Lucky some of you are still married, I think I must have been Lucky, on second thoughts was I unlucky■■?, only time will tell, I wonder how much more I have to serve! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

hiya,
Norm you can throttle them on the the first date and be walking the streets in seven years i suppose it’s worth thinking about.
thanks harry long retired.

Back to pubs and clubs, when I used to deliver Carlsberg to Northern Ireland, I used to call in to a pub called Watsons? it was on the lefthandside of the main street, comming from the docks, you could go upstairs, and music was played, and the public would get up and sing, some of the women in there would drink and drink, several times I was there, one particular woman was so pie-eyed, she would pee her self, it was a shame, because, she had quite a good voice when sober. A few years ago, I went over with my wife & son & wife, and it was closed down, in the 80’s to 90’s, many a trucker went in to that place, as well as going to a dance at the Highways hotel.

hiya,
It’s a wonder you Norm and our Chris ever got the goods from A to B what with you pubbing, clubbing and doing the Irish jig and Chris spending his time waving his log book at passing drivers, it’s a good job there was dedicated drivers like myself or this land would have come to a grinding halt.
thanks harry long retired.

There is a old saying, if you work hard, you must play hard, and get the job done, in every way■■? :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

hiya,
Story of my life Norm i must have worked too hard i slept hard as well, that’s either dedication or idiocy, methinks the latter.
thanks harry long retired.

Harry, you should have been like Chris and me, found places to relax and enjoy yourself, spread yourself around, make friends, everywhere you stepped out of your cab, made a lasting impression, bring joy to the outer regions, and all of that tripe .

hiya,
Brought pleasure to my own regions on the odd occasion.
thanks harry long retired.

I like that Harry,BRS keeping the country ticking over. I wasn’t fiddling home every night, honest.
Well, all I can say is that BRS must have been a good job as there was no chance of getting a start with them in Sheffield, not even on Parcels.

hiya,
Chris i managed to get a days work in Sheffield for the BRS bit of internal shunting, my old F88 had blown up again (every trip) and was commandeered to help out while the old girl was repaired.

Once again getting back to the subject, do you remember the clubs and pubs who would have country & western nights and would dress up in cowboy gear, I went to several at Doncaster, also in the norfolk & fens area, they loved the music, and a good night was had by all!, any of you old cowboy truckers out there remember?. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Hi Norman,
Ive been organising Country & Western evenings here in my home village and a couple of other places, for 27 years,we just do five per year, used to do one a month. Raised money for Hospitals,Air Ambulance and other good causes,we have booked five for 2010,next one here is on 28th Nov.
Cheers Dave.

Dave was almost tempted to come down to see the show, but I cannot stand all that sunshine you are having just now, but will try to make one next year, you will have to keep me informed, and I will make a few days trip out of it.

Hi Norman,
Its only a small village hall,we have live artists, most of its middle of the road stuff these days,a bit of country, sixties also a bit of rock music. Alot of the venues have packed in,due to the breathaliser and a lot of the followers are getting on in years, but its a good night out,we go and support some of the other venues, they come back and support us. Our hall is only about 100 yards from my bungalow.
Cheers Dave.

Still, I can do it on route to somewhere, drink is no problem to me, I just do not drink because of the tablets I take, about 5 years ago , I went to Irealand via Scotland, to to see some old friends in Annan, and some place in Larne, over the years since my wife mother died in 1989, she has seen more of Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, than she knew that excisted.

hiya,
Norm, tell you what my old mate you excel at everything including Bog Trotting, i used to enjoy taking the wagon over Paddy’s Pond on the odd occasion.
thanks harry long retired.

Yes Harry, I always found the Irish to be quite friendly, but it caught me out, when I met my wife     , I have been on every ferry from uk to Ireland, I have drove straight across from Rosslare, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, I have also been clockwise from Cork & Rosslare around southern parts, anti clockwise from Belfast & Larne to Northern parts and into southern Irealand on the western side, I think I know the country very well, I stopped and had breakfast in a cafe well used by Irish truckers near Kilbeggan but nearer to kinnegad on the Dublin to Mullingar road, I have even kissed the Blarney Stone     , But I am sure no-one on here would believe that

hiya,
Norm, i know youv’e kissed the Blarney Stone.
