No problems Dave our “Do” usually coincides with a “Toon” home game so’s
us from South of the Tyne and support Sunderland have someone to do a
bit of battling with should the results not go in our favour, so always loads
of lawmen knocking about.

No I’m on friendly terms with them, they once knock me up in the toons car park at about three in the morning, and said you know your trailer has been broken into, do you know what is missing, no and I don’t care, I am trying to get some sleep. But if you give me a phone number, I will give it to the depot at Edinburgh when I unload, and they will check and tell you the amount missing. good night

Now you see why I always used digs Norm, the police hadn’t a clue
were you was so you got your’e nights kip and they had to sort the
break-in, gave them something to do, shorten the night for em’.

Took it in my stride, and went up to Edingburgh and back and had another night out, and went over to the club.

The last time I was checked was in Hereford in December whilst parked on a deserted retail park carpark. Copper pulled up with me sat in my transit with the engine running to keep the heater going as it was frosty. Before he spoke,I said I’m waiting for a train,he shook his head and repeated what I had said.Told him again ,I’m waiting for a train,as my partner is returning from a day out in London and the train is late,so I’m sat here,so as not to disturb anyone with the engine noise.He drove off still shaking his head. I was a mile from the station.

Silencer on the van is fine Norm,it was mot’d a few weeks ago.Its just that transit diesels are a noisy engine and being automatic the tick over when idling is faster.

Well my only other suggestion, trade it in and get one of those hybred engines, when they are in traffice or stopped, you cannot hear a thing, my mate from bowling has one.

One of my Brother-in-laws had a couple of Toyota’s which had the hybrid engine.My sprinter has a five cylinder tdi engine which is quiet for a diesel,also much warmer than the transit because its lined throughout. The transit is warm enough when the heater is going,but as its an older vehicle its more noisy and not lined throughout,but most transits are a bit on the noisy side.

He hasn’t got one of those now NormHe has a couple of diesel cars,one is Vauxhall Vectra estate and the other is a Volvo so there would be more noise and he lives in south-west Wales.

Sorry Dave, I have ran out of idea’s, you will have to by a new one, 
or stick with the noisey transit. I last drove a brand new one in the late 60’s, and it was not too bad, went to Manchester to deliver Norvic shoes, and got a ticket to see the cup final replay between Chelsea V Leeds in 1970.

I won’t be buying another new one Norm.The last new one cost me £29,000.I paid £17,000 for the transit just over 13years ago,it was two and a half years old with 1,800 miles on the clock and was like new.There are lots of good low mileage second hand low mileage vans around with all the gear,lifts etc for £10,000 to £15,000.I am always scouring the Internet to see what is available,but the two vehicles that I have will last a few years.I have a slight problem with the lift on my sprinter,but I will take it to Brislington near Bristol to a lift specialist and get it sorted.I ain’t forking out £30,000 for a new van just to see it depreciating over the next few years.I have done that too many times with cars,but now when I buy something I keep it a long time to get my moneys worth out of them.
